"Admit it," the bishop tells him. "You aren't in control. Not for the things that matter the most."
Tyler fixes his eyes on the ground. Nods.
He finds that he can't even deny it.
All he has ever wanted was to feel like anything he did mattered.
Like he could truly control anything.
Like he didn't have to fight those unwanted thoughts and feelings that crept into his mind when he least expected, trying to convince him nothing he did mattered and that it was all hopeless anyway.
A thought strikes him suddenly, out of nowhere.
And he glances at the red-cloaked figure beside him.
Could Nico-
He shakes his head.
No. Surely not.
But...even now he can't be sure whether or not the bishop is a friend or foe.
At times, he has honestly and truly seen two different sides of him.
"Listen to me," Nico tells him. "I am not your enemy. I want what's best for you."
Tyler nods again.
"You are truly unhappy with how things are, are you not?" the bishop asks him.
He nods once more.
But it's making him far more than simply unhappy.
"Don't you wish you could do something about that?" the bishop asks him.
He looks at those red eyes.
Somehow they don't seem menacing, not at the moment.
Wasn't Nico responsible for that feeling of not being in control? he asks himself.
Then he shakes his head.
No. Of course not.
When has the bishop ever done anything to him that was anything but kind?
Everything he did was for his own good. Wasn't it?
The bishop speaks again.
"You wish you were in control," Nico whispers. "Admit it. You want it, don't you?"
He doesn't say anything, but Nico knows perfectly well the thoughts that are etched across his mind.
Nico rests his hand on his shoulder but its not a bad feeling. Its almost a fatherly gesture.
"That is only natural, child," he says.
Child.
For some reason the fact that Nico has continued to address him that way makes him wonder.
Why?
"Because in a sense, you are. Don't you see?"
Tyler shakes his head. He doesn't see at all.
The bishop takes Tyler's hand in his own, gently, but it still hurts.
And then he sees.
"Do you know how I found you?" Nico asks.
Tyler just stares at the floor.
He doesn't think he truly wants to know.
Somehow it gives him an ominous feeling.
It brings back things he doesn't want to remember.
He was in a bad place emotionally then.
He still is, but...this pain is different this time.
