"When-when did you escape the city?" someone asks her.
Everything around her seems too much, yet too little, at the same time.
She can't think, definitely can't figure out whose asking it.
But finally something clicks in her brain and she's able to say, "I didn't. I never truly left, did I?"
Before she knows what's happening she's sobbing. "I never escaped. I'm not free. I might not be there, in the same place, but I still feel so-so unsteady. So weak."
"You aren't weak," someone tells her gently. "Please. Believe me. Believe me, okay? You aren't weak. You're strong, and we love you. Okay? We need you here. We need you to stay strong, and keep fighting. No matter what happens. Please."
She can't help but feel a little bit soothed by that.
"All-all right," she says, exhaling.
But she still isn't sure.
She isn't sure how she feels or if she believes that or not.
She does know how disconnected she feels from everyone and everything, even as she hears their voices and words of encouragement.
She feels so drained, so tired, even among the people who she's growing to trust.
But she doesn't want to speak up.
To ruin the moment.
So she stays quiet.
They don't know.
They don't know what's wrong and they never will.
Never will understand.
How could they?
