"We can't..." the man falters. "We can't risk it, I'm afraid."

"I don't think I heard you correctly," the figure dressed in red says, stepping forward threateningly. "What did you say?"

The man looks around, as if searching for an escape.

"I...I said...I don't think it would be wise t-to risk it," he says again.

"Truly?" the figure in red asks.

He sounds almost vaguely amused.

"And why is that?" he asks.

Sensing the man's fear he says, "No, go on. Tell me, please."

The man sighs. "The-the rebels...it appears they've journeyed too far..."

"Too far..." the figure in red asks prompts.

"Too far," the man says, shutting his eyes as if he's trying to block out this reality. "Too far for us to find. Leaving would mean leaving the city unproctected."

"Reasonable," the figure in red says. "Reasonable. Yet how did you arrive at this conclusion?"

"There's no evidence of them," the man says, "Not anywhere near the city, I mean."

"Also reasonable," the figure in red says.

His voice stays completely, utterly calm for all of three seconds.

Then, "Now, get out of my sight!"

The man scurries away, back to his place.

Back to keep watch.

Just in case...

The figure in red sighs.

How will we find them?

One of the other bishops asks him, in their strange, silent way, without speaking.

They can't have forgotten us. Not so soon. So long as we're still in their thoughts, their minds...we can find them. We can make them wish they'd never left.

We can't physically bring them back.

No. But mentally...

It will take time. And effort. But perhaps-

The other bishop's thoughts mirror his own.

Perhaps we can do it.

And if we can?

He smiles, not that anyone can see under his hood.

But it's a terrible smile.

A sinister smile.

Then it will be worth it. It will be like they never left.

Yes. We'll find them right when they think they're safe. We'll find them when they thought they were safe. Slowly, slowly. They won't know what hit them, but we'll be there. In the back of their minds.

...Slowly infecting them from the inside out, until they have nowhere left to turn. Yes...

Nico finds himself chuckling.

But there's nothing humorous about the situation.

I'll find you, he vows, I'll find you, and then I will take everything from you. You think you've found happiness? I'll show you. I'll show you that you can't escape me. Not while you're still alive. I'm still here. We're still here. And we are coming for you.

I can't remember if I wrote this before or after no chances came out...I think after.
