His promise catches in his throat.
He said they would figure this out, but he's back here again.
Everyone, everything is so far away.
I'm sorry...
There's someone he's apologizing too, but their face escapes him.
He stares at the gray walls, stares without really seeing.
Stares without even noticing what's going around him.
Because he's so overcome with emotion:
I'm pretty sure I've seen this one before...
Why is it all. So. Familiar?
Why can't he escape these...these feelings?
Without even meaning to, he touches the scars on his arm, touches them, and wonders...
Wonders.
Wonders...
Then he swallows, disgusted by his own thoughts.
No.
No.
No.
He isn't supposed to want that.
He wishes he could hate it.
But-
His eyes dart around the room restlessly, noting everyone around him, their own trapped expressions.
And he's gripped by a sudden feeling:
Something bad is about to happen.
It takes over his whole body, until he looks down suddenly, tired and afraid.
Finds himself staring at the same fixed point again.
The time slowly disappearing, disappearing...being pulled away.
Until, before he knows what's happening, he's alone.
When did they leave?
Where are they going?
He doesn't know.
But he can't make himself care.
His mind is weighed too much down, with thoughts and worries.
"Child."
He doesn't startle at that voice, as he once did.
By now, he's completely used to it.
"You shouldn't be here," Nico says.
No, he realizes, no, I really shouldn't. I should be somewhere far, far away...
But I'm not.
I'm here, and I'm afraid.
"I must show you something," the bishop says.
He doesn't ask for him to come, doesn't invite him.
Just states it, quite simply, and expects him to follow.
And he does, this time, without even questioning why.
Just knows that someone more experienced is leading him, so he will go along.
It's only when they've been walking for what seems like an eternity that he dares ask, "W-where are we going?"
"This is exactly where we're meant to be, don't you see?" the figure in red asks.
