Today Harry and Carson were sat at breakfast, but not eating. They're first quidditch match was today and both were beyond nervous.
"Take a bit of toast guys, you're going to need your strength today!" Ron said, sliding a bit of toast to the boys.
"No thanks. Not hungry." Carson said, sliding the toast to Hermione to have.
"Yeah. I'm alright." Harry said, also declining the food.
As Carson opened his mouth to speak again, about how he couldn't possibly play today, a piece of toast was shoved into his mouth by Hermione. He nearly choked but swallowed the food. He turned to Hermione to see her smiling, happy for getting him to eat.
Snape suddenly appeared at the Gryffindor table, staring right at Carson and Harry.
"Good luck today, Potter...Marshall. Then again, now that you've proven yourself against a troll, a little game of Quidditch should be easy work for you...even if it is against Slytherin" Snape said, before walking off and limping. Both Harry and Carson noticed and turned to each other.
"That explains the blood..." They both said in unison, earning confused looks from Hermione and Ron.
"Blood?" Hermione repeated, thinking she must have misheard.
"Last night with the troll. I'm guessing Snape let in that troll as a diversion and went to the third floor and tried to get under that trapdoor!" Carson said, explaining to the other three friends.
"But he must've been bitten, that's why he's limping." Harry said, explaining the rest.
"But why would anyone go near that dog?" Ron asked, remembering what had happened that night and shuddered.
"Well, that day Harry went to Gringotts, when Hagrid went to that vault and the break in. Maybe whatever was in that vault is down there?" Carson said, connecting the dots.
"So, you're saying..." Hermione said, wanting one of the others to clarify it for her.
"That's what the dogs guarding. That's what Snape wants." Harry said, wide eyed.
Then, both Snowball and Hedwig fly into the hall with two packages. They stop at the boys and they take the packages.
"But I never get mail..." Harry said, as Carson tore open that package.
"Woah! A nimbus 2000! Harry you must've gotten one too!" Carson said, excited about the new broom.
Harry opened the package to see the same broom. Carson looked at the brooms in awe, as did Ron. Hermione saw no point in those brooms, to her they were death sticks.
She didn't want Carson to play quidditch because he would get hurt, not that she would ever tell him that. She found quidditch to be a dangerous sport, along with a dangerous broom.
"But who sent this to me...?" Harry asked, as he looked at Professor McGonagall stroking Hedwig and giving her a treat. She smiled warmly at Harry.
After Oliver Wood had shared his story about getting knocked out by Bludgers two minutes into his first game, both Carson and Harry's nerves had grown.
They stepped out onto the pitch and mounted their brooms. They could hear Lee Jordan's commentary.
"Hello, and welcome to Hogwarts' first Quidditch game of the season! Today's game Slytherin versus Gryffindor!!!" His voice echoed throughout the pitch.
The Hufflepuffs, Ravenclaws, and Gryffindors all cheered for the Gryffindor team, while the Slytherins booed for them. Carson saw his friends in the stands cheering for him. He waved to Hermione and she waved back to him. She made sure to cheer extra loud for him.
"The players take their positions as Madam Hooch steps out onto the field to begin the game!" Lee said, as Madam Hooch stepped out to all the players.
"Now I want a nice clean game." She said, looking over at the Slytherins. They nod and she kicks the trunk and the Bludgers fly out. The players fly up into the air.
As the game goes on, Carson scored about 80 points. He could hear Hermione cheering for him in the stands. The game went pretty good, Gryffindor was in the lead 110-60. Then, Harry's broom started malfunctioning.
His broom kept swerving left and right, back, and forth. He wasn't going to be able to keep hold on it much longer. Carson flew over to him, hoping to get him off.
He kept trying to get Harry on his broom, but it wasn't working. The broom would move a different way every time he tried. Carson ran out of ideas on how to help and decided to try to hold Harry's broom still so he could get on. He grabbed the broom, but it swerved, and he got knocked off his own while hanging onto Harry's broom for dear life.
Carson's broom had fell to the ground and everyone was watching, waiting for something to happen.
"CARSON!" Hermione shouted, scared for her best friends life. She ran off and disappeared. Harry's broom stopped swerving and had plummeted to the floor. Carson hoisted himself behind Harry and they dropped to the floor together. They both fell straight onto the grass, but not hurt.
Harry seemed like he was about to throw up, but the snitch flew out of his mouth! He caught it with both hands and Gryffindor was deemed the winners of the match!
