The next few weeks for Carson were incredibly busy with school, the tournament and preparations, and spending time with Hermione. The champions had organized a study group to learn defensive spells, and Viktor Krum even went, per Carson's requests.
Viktor was pretty nice once you got to know him, he was just closed off since he was a famous quidditch player and couldn't tell fake friends from real ones. Viktor even thought Carson and Hermione were the cutest couple he's seen, although Viktor had his eye on an older Beauxbatons girl.
Hermione and Carson were trying to spend as much time together as possible, and Hermione had tagged along during the study group since Carson told all the champions she was the smartest witch he knew.
Finally, the first task had arrived, and Carson and Harry were beyond nervous. They were sitting in the champions tent with the others, waiting.
Fred and Gorge could be heard outside, taking bet's on who would win. "Step up mates! Who fancies a flutter on tonight's bloodbath!" Fred shouted, as George continued getting takers, "Smart money's on Krum to survive!"
Carson and Harry were sat together, both by the tent wall talking about their nerves, "Oh Harry I can't do this! I cant fight a dragon!" Carson rambled, about how he shouldn't have to do this and how Dumbledore should've helped them get out of it.
"Carson? Carson are you there?" Hermione whispered through the tent walls.
"Yeah. What're you doing here?" Carson whispered back to his girlfriend."Remember, they key is to concentrate. After that you have to..."
"Battle a dragon."
"Right, Oh Carson!" Hermione said, coming into the tent and connecting their lips together, until a flash of a camera went off. They broke apart and turned to see Rita Skeeter.
"Young love. How stirring. If things go unfortunately tonight, you two might even make the front page!" Skeeter said, as Krum glared at her.
"You." Hermione grit her teeth, glaring at Skeeter.
"Oh, don't even start, you silly girl. I can tell you where it'll end." Skeeter said, looking smug.
"Don't talk to her like that! You're not even supposed to be here!" Carson yelled, being held back by Hermione and Harry.
"Carson's right. You haff no business here. This tent is for champions. And friends.." Krum said, defending the couple.
"No matter. We got what we wanted." Skeeter said, exiting the tent.
"Hermione. I'll need you to hold this. I don't want it to break if anything happens. I'll be thinking of you the entire time. I promise." Carson explained, unclipping his necklace, and giving it to Hermione.
"Alright. I'll be thinking of you the entire time as well. Be safe." Hermione said, pocketing the necklace and connecting their lips again.
Hermione had left, as Dumbledore, Mr. Crouch and the other headmasters came in.
"Good evening champions. You've waited, you wondered, and now the moment is here." Dumbledore explained, as Mr. Crouch got a bag out.
"A moment only you five can fully appreciate. Barty." Dumbledore said, letting Mr. Crouch take over.
"Surely its been excruciating for you all, speculating these many weeks as to just what it is that awaits you tonight. Miss Delacour, if you will." Mr. Crouch asked, as he held open the bag for Fleur. She took out a tiny dragon, with a number two on it.
"The welsh green, Mr. Krum." Crouch says, Krum putting his hand in the bag and coming out with a three.
"the Chinese fireball..." Crouch whispered, as Cedric took out a one.
"Mr. Potter, if you will." Crouch said, as Harry drew the Hungarian horntail with a four.
"Now, Mr. Marshall." Crouch said, as Carson got the Norwegian ridgeback, with a five.
"These each represent a very real dragon, each of which has been given a golden egg to protect. Your objective is simple, collect the egg. If you do not, you have no hope for the next task, because this egg is a clue for the next. Understand?" Crouch explained, everyone nodding.
"Very well. Good luck to you all, Mr. Diggory, you may go at the sound of the cannon." Dumbledore instructed, as the cannon went off, and Cedric went out to face the dragon.
Everyone had gone, and soon it was just Harry and Carson. Carson's nerves were growing by the minute. He was thinking of Hermione, but she wouldn't have gotten the light, since he wasn't wearing the necklace. Then, the cannon rang, signaling Harry's turn.
"Good luck Harry." Carson said, giving Harry a hug.
"Thanks. Good luck to you too. See you after this." Harry said as he stepped out, leaving Carson alone in the tent. After about fifteen minutes, the cannon rang again. It was Carson's turn.
He stepped out into the area, not expecting it to look like what it did. He quickly hid behind some rocks, as the dragon spewed out fire in his direction. He saw Hermione in the stands, watching nervously as he was hiding.
Carson peered over the rocks, to see the dragon looking around angrily. "Now or never, I guess.." Carson mumbled jumping out of the rocks. As he jumped out, the dragon saw him and spewed fire again, him dodging it just in time. "Petrificus totalus!" Carson shouted, petrifying one of the dragons legs. The dragon could now, not use that leg. However, Carson did not see it's tail coming in his direction and got slammed into the wall.
"Carson! Get back up! Keep fighting!" Carson could hear Hermione shouting, only motivating him further.
Carson fired the spell at the dragon's other leg, petrifying it. Now, all the had to do was watch the tail. Carson jumped through rocks, and swiftly grabbed the egg, before the fire scorched his back. But he had gotten the egg.
"Mr. Marshall has done it! The first champion to get their egg without harming the dragon and in the fastest amount of time!" Crouch shouted, as Carson had gone into the other tent.
"Carson! That was amazing!" Harry shouted, running to his best friend.
"You were amazing too!" Carson said, as all the champions gathered to talk about their dragons and such. Carson got his back fixed up, and soon enough, Hermione came.
"Carson! Love you were incredible! I'm so proud of you!" Hermione shouted, connecting their lips as everyone cheered, as Ron entered.
Carson slipped his necklace back on, as a light went off on Hermione's. Ron apologized for being such an asshole to the boys and how he was the one who tipped them off about the dragons, and they forgave him. They now had to solve the egg.
