On September 1st, Carson and his parents entered platform 9 and 3/4. He had hugged his parents before giving a quick goodbye. He gathered up his trunk, and Snowball's cage and made his way onto the train. He walked around looking for a compartment to sit in, but they all seemed to be full. Finally, he found a compartment with only one person in it. He knocked on the door and stuck his head in quietly.

The girl looked up from her book and looked at him. She was reading "Hogwarts, a history." And she had bushy brown hair with a little overbite.

"Can I sit here? All the other compartments are full, and I don't want to sit out in the train corridor." Carson said nervously, hoping she would say yes.

"You can sit with me. I'm Hermione Granger. You are?" Hermione said, as Carson put his trunk away and set Snowball on the luggage rack.

"Carson. Carson Marshall." Carson said, sticking his hand out for a handshake. Hermione shook his hand, and he sent her a friendly smile. She returned the smile and went back to her book.

"You're reading Hogwarts, a History too?" Carson asked, glad he had something to talk about with the bushy haired girl.

"Yes. This is my second time. I wanted to be prepared for when I got there. You've read it as well?" Hermione said, smiling brightly at him.

"Yep! I'm not done though. It's in my trunk."

They continued to talk before another boy ran into their compartment asking of they had seen his toad, Trevor. Carson knew the boy to be Neville Longbottom, another pureblood.

Hermione and Carson agreed to help him look and they set off on their way. They opened the door to another compartment to see Ron, and another boy with green eyes and messy black hair.

"Hi Ron!" Carson said, waving at the boy. Ron waved back as Hermione started to talk.

"Has anyone seen a toad? A boy named Neville's lost one." Hermione said, getting straight to the point. She then noticed Ron's wand out.

"Oh, are you doing magic? Lets see then." Hermione spoke, waiting for Ron to do his spell expectantly.

Ron cleared his throat before chanting, Sunshine, daises, butter mellow, turn this stupid fat rat yellow!"

The spell did nothing, and his rat Scabbers fell asleep. Ron shrugs at what happened, and Hermione begins to speak up again.

"Are you sure that's a real spell? Well, it's not very good, is it? Of course, I've only tried a few simple spells myself, and they've all worked for me. For example..." Hermione said, trailing off and noticing the boy's broken glasses. "Oculus reparo." Hermione says, pointing her wand at the glasses and they begin to fix themselves.

The boy takes them off, looking at the glasses in amazement before Carson noticed his lightning bolt scar.

"Wow! You're Harry Potter! I'm Carson Marshall, and this is my friend Hermione Granger!" Carson said, introducing himself and Hermione to the boy.

Hermione went red when Carson called her his friend. Carson didn't seem to notice, however. Hermione turned to Ron.

"And you are?" Hermione said, motioning to Ron.

"Uhm.. Ron Weasley." Ron said through a mouthful of candy.

"Pleasure." Hermione says with a look of displeasure on her face.

"Well, we better get going. Neville still needs to find his toad. Hopefully, we'll see you two at Hogwarts! C'mon Hermione!" Carson said, walking out of the compartment.

Hermione walks out with Carson before turning back to Ron and Harry.

"Well, you better change into your robes, I expect we'll be arriving soon. By the way, you've got a bit of dirt on your nose, just there." Hermione says, motioning to a part of Ron's nose.

Hermione then walks out the door and meets back up with Carson.

"Carson.. are you really my friend?" Hermione asks, afraid of the answer.

"Yeah! Why wouldn't I be? You're awesome!" Carson says, grabbing her hand as they kept walking. Hermione blushed at the action before speaking again.

"I've just never had any friends. Everyone thought I was a bookworm and a nerd." Hermione said meekly, avoiding eye contact with Carson.

"Well, it's not bad to be a bookworm. Besides, my parents say I'm one too!" Carson said, glad he has something in common with Hermione. She smiled at him and nodded her head.

"Friends?" Hermione says, holding out her hand for a handshake.

"Best friends." Carson says, shaking Hermione's hand vigorously. They both smile at each other, before the train comes to a stop and they have to exit.
