As Carson woke up in the hospital wing, he saw Harry and Hermione.
"Hermione. Are you okay?" Carson asked as Hermione smiled at him and nodded.
"I should be asking you that. You nearly got your soul sucked out of you."
"Carson, Hermione. I saw my dad." Harry shouted out, signaling he was awake.
"What?" Carson asked, confused on how he did.
"He sent the Dementors away... I saw him. Across the lake..."
Hermione and Ron shared a look with each other, then turned back to the two.
"Listen, Harry. They've captured Sirius. Any minute the Dementors are going to perform the Kiss." Hermione said, Carson growing worried.
"The kiss?" Harry asked, not knowing what that was.
"It's what Dementors do to those they want to destroy. They clamp their jaws over the victim's mouth and... suck out his soul." Carson answered for Hermione.
"You mean, they're going to kill Sirius?"
"No. It's worse. Much worse. You go on living. But you have no memory. No sense of self. You're just a shell. An empty shell..." Hermione explained, looking at Carson and thinking what could've been if someone wasn't there to save him.
Suddenly, Dumbledore entered the room and saw the four awake talking to each other.
"Headmaster! You've got to stop them! They've got the wrong man!" Hermione tried to tell Dumbledore.
"It's true, sir. Sirius is innocent!" Harry added, "It's Scabbers who did it!" Ron chimed in, Carson didn't say anything, he felt too drained.
"Scabbers..?" Dumbledore asked, not knowing who that was.
"My rat, sir. Only he's not really a rat. Well, he was a rat. You see, he used to be my brother Percy's."
"The point is... we know the truth. Please, sir, you must believe us." Hermione begged, as Dumbledore nodded.
"I do, Miss Granger. But I'm sorry to say the word of four thirteen-year-old wizards will convince few others. A child's voice, however honest and true, is meaningless to those who have forgotten how to listen." Dumbledore said wisely, but this was no time for that.
As everyone grows quiet, a shooting star is seen from the hospital wing window. "Ah... a shooting star. If ever one was to make a wish, now would be the time. But time, I'm afraid, is precisely our problem..." Dumbledore stated, Hermione catching onto the idea.
"Mysterious thing, time. Powerful. And, when meddled with... dangerous. Sirius Black is in the topmost cell of the Dark Tower. You know the laws, Miss Granger. You must not be seen. And you would, I feel, do well to return before this last chime. If not... well, the consequences are really too ghastly to discuss. Three turns should do it, I think. If you succeed, more than one innocent life may be spared tonight." Dumbledore said, as Hermione took another necklace out, one that wasn't the one Carson had gotten her.
She flung the necklace onto her and Harry before turning to the other two. "Sorry Ron, you've got a broken leg and cant walk. Carson, you're way too tired to make it through this." She said as she turned the dial three times and left, only to return a minute later.
"What...but you were just there. Where...what?" Carson said, once they showed up again.
"Sirius is safe, and so is Buckbeak." Hermione said, going over to Carson's bed.
"But how? You were just there, and now you're here! It's like you were in two places at once!" Ron said, shocked.
"Don't be silly Ron. Nobody can be in two places at once." Hermione said, while Harry and her shared a laugh before Carson fell asleep once more for the night, Hermione by his side.
"What do you think Harry? Too much for him after everything that's happened tonight?" Hermione asked Harry, motioning to Ron.
"Afraid so. Always been a bit of the nervous type, Ron has."
