Harry and Carson slowly walked into Professor Lupin's office the next afternoon. He was organizing papers and didn't see the two boys walk in.
"Hello Carson, Harry." Professor Lupin said, making them jump. He was still not facing them, organizing his papers.
He turned to face the two students with tired eyes. "I saw you two coming." He said, showing them the map. Carson and Harry nod, and look at the professor trying to hide their shock at how beat up he looked.
"I've looked much worse, believe me." He says, as the boys looked around his room, noticing how empty it was.
"You've been sacked..." Carson said dejectedly. Lupin shakes his head and corrects him, "Resigned actually."
"Resigned! But why?" Harry asked, sad he was leaving.
"It seems that someone has let slip the nature of my condition."
"Snape." Harry and Carson said at once.
"Whoever. It was bound to get out. This time tomorrow, the owls will start arriving. Parents will not want a...someone like me teaching their children." Lupin said, motioning to himself.
"But Dumbledore..." Harry said, being cut off.
"Has already risked enough on my behalf. Besides, people like me, well... let's just say I'm used to this by now. But before I go, tell me about your Patrons Harry."
"Well. At first I thought it was a horse, or perhaps a unicorn, but I think it was..."
"A stag." Lupin answered for him.
"Yes. It was a stag!"
"Your father used to transform into one. That's how he was able to keep me company when I became... sick. He was a great friend James." Lupin said, smiling on the memory.
He picks up his trunks and all of his thigs, getting ready to leave. "There are stories about him and your mother, you know. Some are even true. But I think it's safe to say, in the end, you'll know them best by getting to know yourself." Lupin said, before muttering, "Mischief managed!" closing the map. And just like that, Remus Lupin was gone, and the map was still there.
Carson handed Harry the map, and he slipped it in his pocket as they walked out of the classroom.
Once they arrived back at the common room, Ron was in a small crowd with the other Gryffindor boys in their year.
"Stand back, I said! I'll take it upstairs if you don't settle!" Ron shouted, as they walked in. Carson glanced at Hermione and she cleared the throat loudly.
"Carson! Wherever did you get it!" Neville asked, as Seamus spoke up, "Can I have a go, Carson? After you, of course?"
"Quiet!" Ron shouted, the others listening. "Thank you. Let the man through."
As Carson walks through the crowd his eyes land upon the broomstick in Ron's hands. The firebolt.
"No way! The firebolt! Who's is it?!" Carson asked, as they all laughed.
"Who's is it? It's yours mate!" Ron said. "But how...who?"
"It's a mystery love. Though... this fell out of the wrapping." Hermione said, holding up a hippogriff feather. After Hermione told him the whole story when he woke up, he knew it was from Sirius.
"That's a hippogriff feather..." Carson inspected, holding it up.
"C'mon! Let's go! I want to fly it!" Carson said, grabbing the broom and running out, the others following.
Once they arrived, Carson got onto the broom. Everyone went quiet, ready to see the firebolt in action.
"Go on Carson!"
"Yeah! Let's see!"
"I don't think it works. Guys, I think it's defective." Carson said sadly.
Many of the kids return to the castle as Carson said, "It's just a broom."
Hagrid nodded sadly, "Just a broom."
"Yeah! The fastest broom in the world!" Carson said, taking off and tricking them all. Everyone watches the broom in fascination as Carson's joy is projected through the castle.
After giving out rides to everyone, it was Hermione's turn. "Hop on!" Carson shouted, as she walked closer. "No thanks! I hate flying!"
"Come on 'Mione! Pleaseee...." Carson begged, Hermione giving in.
As they flew across the castle on the firebolt, the two shared a kiss up above in the sunset, ending their third year of Hogwarts, excited for what the next year had in store.
