"These are dark times, there is no denying. Our world has perhaps faced no greater threat than it does today. But I say this to our citizenry: we, ever your servants, continue to defend your liberty and repel the forces that would seek to take it from you. Your Ministry remains strong..." The newspaper reads, as Hermione and Carson were sitting in Hermione's bedroom at her house in Muggle London.
Hermione was going to obliviate her parents for their own safety, and Carson was here for moral support. After this, they were going to Pivet drive to help Harry get to the Burrow safely.
"Hermione, Carson! Tea's ready darlings!" Mrs. Granger called out to them.
"Coming mum!" Hermione yelled, her voice breaking as she did so.
"It'll be okay 'Mione. I'll be here for you. I always will." Carson reassured, before the two walked downstairs.
"Don't you two look lovely. All packed 'Mione?" Mrs. Granger asked, as Hermione nodded. They thought she was going to spend the rest of the summer at Carson's. Mrs. Granger set the tea down by the table in front of the television, as Mr. Granger came out with biscuits.
"Are you sure these biscuits are sugar-free?" Mr. Granger asked, as Mrs. Granger nodded.
"Quite sure, dear. See the big bold letters that say 'Sugar Free'? Dead giveaway." She responded, as Mr. Granger came and kissed the top of Hermione's head.
"Hello kitten, don't you look lovely?"
Hermione smiled at her father, as Carson looked at the family happily. He knew what she had to do, but that didn't mean she couldn't enjoy the moments before it. Her family was quite nice and welcoming. As the adults sat down, Hermione raised her wand and whispered, "Obliviate."
Hermione looks at all the family photos she is disappearing from, and Carson grabs one of them and it doesn't fade her out of it. The photo he grabbed was of Hermione's 6th birthday.
At this time, they didn't know she was a witch, they didn't know about the wizarding world, they didn't know Carson existed. But now, they didn't know Hermione existed, their own daughter.
Carson slipped the photo in his pocket, and the two left the house. Carson brought Hermione close to him, and they made their way to Pivet drive.
The lovers arrived that night, and they both enveloped Harry in a hug when they arrived. Carson slipped off to find Ron, as Hermione went into the living room where mostly everyone else was.
"Does Lavender know?" Carson asked Ron.
"Know what?"
"That you won't be returning to Hogwarts. That you're going horcrux hunting."
"Sort of. I told her mum didn't want me going back, not about this hunt."
"Well, we better get ready. I suspect they'll need us."
The two went into the living room, Carson going over to Hermione as she wrapped her arms around his waist.
"Potter, you're underage, which means you've still got the Trace on you." Moody told him.
"The Trace?" Harry asked, not knowing what it was.
"You sneeze and the Ministry will know who wipes your nose. Point is, we have to use those means of transport the Trace can't detect: brooms, thestrals and the like. We'll go in pairs. That way if anyone's out there waiting for us, and I reckon there will be, they won't know which Harry Potter is the real one." Moody explained.
"The real one...?"
"I believe you're familiar with this particular brew."
"No! Absolutely not!"
"I told you he'd take it well." Hermione sighed.
"If you think I'm going to let people risk their lives for me.."
"Never done that before, have we?" Ron asked, as Carson spoke up.
"I've been crucio'd more times than I can count protecting you since I was eleven. I'm not stopping now."
"This is different. Taking that. Becoming me... no."
"Well, none of us really fancy it, mate." Fred stated, "Yeah, imagine if something went wrong and we were stuck as scrawny, specky gits forever." George continued.
"Everyone here's of age, Potter, and they've all agreed to take the risk." Moody told Harry.
"Technically, I've been coerced." Someone muttered, holding out their hand to Harry. "Mundungus Fletcher, Mr. Potter. I've always been a huge admirer."
"Nip it, Mundungus! All right, Granger, as discussed." Moody told her, as Hermione yanked out some of Harry's hair.
"Blimey Hermione!"
"Straight in here, if you please."
"Carson, come here for a second." Hermione asked, leading him out into the hallway before she pressed her lips on his.
"I wanted to do that now, since I'm not kissing Harry, as Harry. That would be weird."
"Very weird. But once we get there I'll give you a real kiss." Carson told her as they went back.
After they've all taken the potion and changed into the same clothes, they got on the brooms. Carson was on his own broom, and the others had a partner. They took off, and the death eaters were soon following them.
Carson swerved right and left avoiding spells coming at him from death eaters. As they attacked, most death eaters thought Carson was the real Harry. It only took the real Harry disarming instead of stunning for them to realize Carson wasn't the real Harry. But they realized that too late, since one spell fired at him caused him to crash and fall into the ground below.
"NO!" He could hear one of the Harry's shout out, most likely Hermione.
When he landed on the ground, everything went black. It was only when he woke up later, he got up and tried to look around. He was in the woods, he just didn't know how close he was to the burrow. He started walking through the woods, his fake Harry glasses cracked and his face all covered in dirt. He heard voices come from the other side of the woods, so he went that way.
When he walked out of the woods, he saw Harry talking to Hermione by the entrance to the burrow. It was just them, Remus, and Kingsley Shacklebolt, so he assumed he was the last one back. Hermione whipped around, and ran straight for Carson.
Hermione flung herself into Carson's arms but Kingsley showed no pleasure at the sight of either of them. Hermione rested her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat, as Carson wrapped an arm around her shoulder and kissed the top of her head.
"I thought I lost you...I thought you were dead..." Hermione whispered, her head still in it's spot.
"Always the tone of surprise, my love." Carson whispered as they stayed in that position for a little longer.
When they went back inside, Carson was interrogated by Lupin to make sure it was really him.
"What did Carson Marshall say when Hermione Granger asked if they were friends on the train in first year?" Remus asked, as Carson smiled knowingly.
"Best friends."
