Potter, Marshall. What are you two doing wandering the corridors at night?"
"I was...I was...sleepwalking. Carson came to bring me back to the tower so we must be going now." Harry said, trying go get away but Snape was having none of it.
"How extraordinarily like your fathers you are, Potter, Marshall. They, too, were exceedingly arrogant. Strutting about the castle." Snape said but was cut off.
"Our father's didn't strut and neither do we grease ball." Carson said through gritted teeth.
"Now, if you don't mind, I'd appreciate you lowering your wand." Harry said, Snape surprisingly listening.
"Turn out your pockets. Both of you." Snape commanded, and Carson did so. Harry hesitated, Snape noticing. He check Carson's pockets first, to find nothing.
"Turn out your pockets Potter!" Snape commanded again, Harry doing as he said. The parchment falls out, as Snape eyed it like a kid in a candy store.
"And this. What might it be?" Snape asked evilly.
"It's spare parchment. Hermione says to always have some with you in case you need it." Carson said, covering for Harry.
"Marshall don't go getting yourself into more trouble! Potter, what is it?" Snape said, dismissing Carson's words.
"Like Carson said, spare bit of parchment..." Harry said, hoping he would buy it.
"Really..." Snape said, raising his wand. "Reveal your secret!"
To both Carson and Harry's horror, words started appearing on the map. They both were so focused on the map; they didn't see the necklace Carson was wearing shine, indicating Hermione was thinking about her boyfriend.
"Read it." Snape said, shoving the parchment to the boys.
"'Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs offer their compliments to Professor Snape and...'" Harry trailed off.
"Go on." Snape said, forcing them to continue reading.
"'... and request that he keep his abnormally large nose out of other people's business.'" Carson continued. Harry and Carson smiled, as Snape's smiled dropped.
"Why you insolent little.." Snape started, but being cut off by Professor Lupin.
"Professor...?" Professor Lupin asked, seeing Snape.
"Well, well. Lupin. Out for a little walk in the moonlight, are we?" Snape jeered, as the other professor noticed Harry and Carson were there as well.
"Harry? Carson? You all right?" The kind professor asked, the two boys nodding their heads.
"That remains to be seen. I've just now confiscated a rather curious artifact from Mr. Potter. Take a look, Lupin. This is supposed to be your area of expertise." Snape said, shoving the map into Professor Lupin's hands.
He observed it for a minute, the map now showing a caricature of Snape that looked rather unflattering but yet very funny.
"Clearly, it's full of Dark Magic." Snape said again, noticing the picture on the map.
"I seriously doubt that Severus. It looks to me as if it merely insults anyone who tries to read it. I suspect it's a Zonko's product. Nevertheless, I shall pursue any hidden qualities it may possess. As you say, it's my area of expertise. Come, Harry, Carson." Professor Lupin said, the two boys following.
Both Harry and Carson follow a fuming Professor Lupin, as he gripped the map tightly. Carson fiddled with his necklace, sending a light to Hermione. Harry and Carson both exchanged scared looks, they had never seen the professor so angry.
"I don't know how this map came to be in your possession, Harry and Carson, but I'm astounded that you didn't turn it in. Did you ever stop to think that this -- in the hands of Sirius Black -- is a map to you two!" Lupin said, barely able to contain his anger.
The two boys had never thought of that, he could never have gotten to the map since they always carried it with them, and when it wasn't, it was kept under Harry's mattress.
"Your fathers didn't set much store by rules either. But Harry, he and your mother did give their lives to save yours. Gambling their sacrifice by walking about the castle unprotected, with a killer on the loose, strikes me as a poor way to repay them. I won't cover up for you again, Harry. You too Carson." Professor Lupin scolded the two boys.
Harry felt more guilty than Carson since his parents died for him. Carson felt guilty as well, but he was just guilty that he got Harry into trouble, he should've just stopped him from going out.
As Professor Lupin puts the map away in his office, the boys looked out at the moon shimmering in the distance.
"Professor. Just so you know, I don't think the map always works. Earlier, it showed someone in the castle. Someone I know to be dead." Harry told the Professor, who was only listening halfheartedly.
"And who might that be Harry?"
"Peter Pettigrew. Carson and I saw him on the map, that's why we left the dormitory."
"Yeah but when we arrived the only thing I saw was a rat." Carson said, Professor Lupin hesitating at his words.
"Very well. I'd like you to return to your dormitory now. Oh, and boys? Don't take any detours." Professor Lupin said, glancing at the map.
"If you do I'll know."
