The four stepped into the pub, the dimly lit and unkept building making an eerie look. They saw a group of people huddled around in a corner of the pub, and Hermione led them there.
"Hermione what's going on?" Harry asked, seeing all the people waiting for them.
"These are some people I mentioned my defense against the dark arts idea with." Hermione stated, motioning to the crowd.
"You mean about us teaching ourselves?"
"Hey Harry." Neville said, waving to him.
"Hi Neville."
"It's good to see the horned snorkle- stacks haven't gotten to you yet, Harry." Luna said dreamily, as Harry looked utterly confused.
"Er...same to you Luna."
Just then, Hermione knocked on the table, gaining everyone's attention. Everyone turned to look at her, and she started to speak.
"Hi everyone, I thought it would be good if we met and talked over how we wanted to teach ourselves defense against the dark arts. Because we need to learn it properly, not the rubbish Umbridge is teaching."
"Hear, hear!" Fred and George chanted, earning a small smile from Hermione.
"Obviously, this will help us pass our O.W.L.s, but more importantly, it gives us the ability to protect ourselves from....lord Voldemort." Hermione mumbled, Carson pecking her cheek, since that was the first time she had ever said his name.
"Good job 'Mione. That's the first time you've ever said his name." Carson praised, as Hermione smiled at him.
"How do we really know you-know-who's back?" Zacharias Smith asked.
"Dumbledore believes he is." Fred answered, Zacharias still not believing it.
"You mean Dumbledore believes them.." Justin Finch Flecthley commented, as he pointed to Harry and Carson.
"That's true, but I think we're drifting away from the purpose..." Hermione told them, trying to avoid the topic of the graveyard, after seeing how it affected Carson last time.
"It's okay Hermione." Harry said, not knowing her true intentions of not talking about it.
"I believe Voldemort's back because I fought him last year. Dumbledore's already told the school. If you didn't believe him, you won't believe anyone."
"Well...anyway...uh, I think that in order to learn properly we'll need a teacher." Hermione told the group, everyone looking around, since they were only students.
"But we're all students. None of us has the experience to..." Neville started, Ginny cutting him off.
"Someone here does." Ginny said, staring at Harry.
"Me?"
"I for one would like to know why Potter's qualified and the rest of us aren't." Michael Corner chimed in.
"Because he's fought you-know-who four times and lived to talk about it." Ginny told the Ravenclaw defensively.
"One of the portraits said that you killed a basilisk in the chamber of secrets with that sword in Dumbledore's office." Susan Bones stated, Harry nodding his head.
"Uh...well, yeah, I did."
"Blimey Harry." Lee Jordan said in awe.
"Can't forget that he saved the Philosopher's stone from you-know-who in his first year."
"But Carson helped with that! It wasn't all me. Carson was crucio'd four times by Voldemort and protected it." Harry stated, as all eyes went to Carson, who looked uncomfortable at the mention of it. Both the Patil sisters looked at Carson with respect and astonishment.
"And last year Harry got through the Triwizard tournament!" Cho piped up, Harry nodding at the recognition from Cho.
"Not to mention you dueled with you-know-who all alone and he still couldn't kill you!" Ron added, and Harry looked at Carson in concern.
"Carson was there..." Harry mumbled out
"Yeah well he wasn't really alive for the duel..." Ron mumbled, as Carson went white. Thankfully, Ginny changed the subject from the tournament.
"And you fought off those dementors that attacked you this summer!" Ginny exclaimed, and Hermione looked please and spoke up again, rubbing Carson's back as she did so.
"So all in favor of taking lessons from Harry?"
Almost everyone held up their hands, some hesitating before raising theirs as well.
"Where are we going to meet?" Hermione asked.
"Maybe an unused classroom?" Neville suggested.
"That might work. I'll look into that." Harry told them, as Hermione nodded.
"Okay good." She said, pulling a piece of parchment out of her bag.
"I think we should put our names down, so we know who's here." She explained, as everyone looked around uncomfortably.
"I don't know...if it were found, I mean if Umbridge found out...she wouldn't like what we are doing." Ernie McMillian murmured.
"Honestly, Ernie, do you think I'm just going to leave it lying around? Besides, it's enchanted." Hermione explained, as everyone signed the parchment.
"Also, what should we call ourselves?" Hermione asked, Carson speaking up.
"The we hate Umbridge club?" He suggested, and Fred and George eagerly agreed.
"We need something that doesn't give away what we're doing."
"How about Dumbledore's army?" Ginny suggested, most people agreeing.
"Dumbledore's army it is then. DA for short." Hermione told them, writing it down on the parchment.
"Well we'll let you know when we're going to meet." Hermione stated, ending the meeting. The four packed up and went back to the castle.
