"Welcome! Welcome to another year at Hogwarts! I have a few things to say, before we become befuddled by our excellent feast. I myself am particularly looking forward to the flaming kiwi cups, which, while somewhat treacherous for those of us with facial hair..." Dumbledore starts, getting off topic until Professor McGonagall clears her throat, telling him to get on with it.

"Mm. Yes. First, I'm pleased to welcome Professor R.J. Lupin, who has kindly consented to fill the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts. Good luck to you, Professor." Dumbledore says, as Lupin waves.

"Of course! That's why he knew to give you the chocolate, boys!" Hermione said to the two boys who had fainted during the ride. They nodded their heads, excited for the new teacher. He seemed to actually know things, unlike Professor Quirrell and Lockhart.

"As some of you may know, Professor Kettleburn, our Care of Magical Creatures teacher for many years, has decided to retire in order to spend more time with his remaining limbs. Fortunately, I'm delighted to announce that his place will be filled by none other than our own Rubeus Hagrid!" Dumbledore says, earning the loudest applause from the four of them.

Hagrid smiled and waved, nearly knocking the goblets off the table when he stood up. They didn't fall over, and he sat back down as red as rubies.

"Finally, on a more disquieting note, Hogwarts -- at the request of the Ministry of Magic -- will, until further notice, play host to the Dementors of Azkaban." Dumbledore says, students murmuring about the encounters on the train. Carson and Harry notice Malfoy impersonating them by pretending to faint into Crabbe and Goyle's arms.

Carson was about to go beat up Malfoy, but Hermione grabbed his hand and stroked his palm, ultimately calming him down. As Dumbledore continued to talk.

"The Dementors will be stationed at the entrances to the grounds. While they are under strict orders not to enter the castle itself, you will on occasion see them as you go about your daily activities. Under no circumstances are you to approach them. It is not in the nature of a Dementor to be forgiving." Dumbledore said, looking angry that they were even here in the first place. Everyone knew he was against the dementors.

Later that night, the boys were all in bed for the night just talking about how great this year was going to be, even with the dementors.

"Feels good to be back doesn't it boys?" Carson said to Ron and Harry.

"Yeah. It's like being back home." Harry said dreamily.

"It feels good to be home." Carson and Ron said at the same time, Harry smiling at his two best friends.

"Yeah...it does." Harry said, glancing out the window, looking at the night sky.

Harry, Ron, and Carson were all sat at a four-seat table in their first divination lesson. Carson and Hermione were excited to be in new subjects this year, but she wasn't here yet. Hermione was taking divination, Care of magical creatures, ancient runes, and arithmancy. Carson was taking the same two, no arithmancy and ancient runes.

As they were all sat together, they all wondered where the teacher was. They had never actually met professor Trelawny now that they thought about it.

Suddenly, a woman burst into the room and got started. "Welcome, my children. In this room, you shall explore the mysterious art of Divination. In this room, you shall discover if you possess..." she trailed off, gazing at the different students and quickly continuing, "... the Sight. Hello. I am Professor Trelawney. Together, we shall cast ourselves into the future. But know this. One either has the Gift or not. It cannot be divined from the pages of a book. Books only cloud one's Inner Eye." She said, as Hermione look terrified at the parts about books. She decided she already hated divination with her whole heart.

"What rubbish." Hermione whispers to Carson, as he just noticed her presence.

"Woah. When did you get here? I don't remember seeing you here before." Carson said, alarmed he didn't notice his girlfriend walk in.

"I've been here all along, love." She said as she kissed his cheek and went back to the lesson she already knew she wasn't going to like.

Professor Trelawney turned to Neville before saying, "You, boy! Is your grandmother well?" Neville growing scared.

"I... I think so." He responded meekly.

"I wouldn't be so sure about that." She continued on as if that never happened. "The first term will be devoted to the reading of tea leaves. If all goes well, we will proceed to palmistry, fire omens, and finally... the crystal ball." She said in an eerie voice before eyeing Parvati Patil up. "By the way, dear, beware a red-haired man." She said, causing the third year to scoot further away from Ron.

"Unfortunately, classes will be disrupted in February by a nasty bout of flu. I myself will lose my voice. And in late spring, two of our number will... leave us forever." She continued on, the entire class sharing a nervous glance. Carson and Harry shared the same look, thinking it could be them. Because you know, Sirius Black trying to kill them.

"Well then, shall we?" The professor said, handing out teacups.

As Carson and Hermione drank their tea and exchanged cups, she read out of the book. "You have...a sun, meaning great happiness, a heart, which means true love..." Hermione said, smiling brighter than before and pressing a peck to his lips before continuing. She didn't believe in divination, but if it said her boyfriend was her true love, she can make an exception just this once.

"A wonky cross, trials and suffering... and I don't know the last one." Hermione said, as Trelawney took the cup from her.

"Don't know dearie, lets take a look." The professor said, examining the cup. She repeated what Hermione said, and added in a new one. "Oh, dear boy! Dear Marshall! You have the grim!" she said, drawing attention to the other tables.

"What? The grim?" Carson said, confused.

"The death omen!" Trelawney said, and screamed in pain, overexaggerating.

"WHAT?! Death omen!" Hermione shouted, scared for her boyfriends life now. She thought divination was completely stupid, but she was also scared for her boyfriend.

Carson grabbed her hand and did what she did for him, stroked her hand with his thumb. "Don't worry. You said it yourself, divination is rubbish." He whispered to her. She kissed his cheek as a thank you.

"Well. He's got a wonky sort of cross -- that's trials and suffering. But this lot here could be the sun -- that's great happiness. So... he's going to suffer but be very happy about it." Ron said, examining Harry's cup as Trelawney went to observe his cup.

"You my boy, you have the grim as well!" The professor said, giving the same speech she gave Carson.
