After spending two days in Tijuana, Nick found herself watching as the days long car ride - with brief stops at motels, and houses, and apartment buildings - which let Nick know fast that they had a lot of people in their pockets, she only took notice of a call Kahlil had mentioning Leon.
Eventually she was sitting in the car with Hayley as the two men were outside the vehicle, and she glanced to Hayley. "You hear what they're talking about?"
"Cops and feds took out the main shipping dock, Leon's dead." Hayley told her, and Nick looked out the window with a close of her eyes and breath because it was a reassurance she didn't give up her best chance at escape for nothing. It was a calculated guess that had made her stomach churn and flip for the last couple days.
She didn't know what was in that folder, but somehow she knew it was important.
It could've been a long shot, that led to nothing. What would she have told Tony? What would he have thought if he had been told by someone else because-
"Hey." Hayley nudged her, snapping Nick from her thoughts, and causing the girl to look over - so the woman shook her head. "You've been doing good. Don't give them any reason to look further into you."
At first Nick was worried that the woman knew what she did, but that's when the door opened and Hayley nods to her. "Stick by me, don't run."
Nick eventually followed her out of the car and looked to the gas station in the middle of nowhere, and she knew it was a bad idea to run. Her leg wouldn't let her, she knew that. No matter how much training and will she had, she had to also be smart. She let one of the armed men lead her out of the car and she looked to the side briefly, before to Hayley, because the woman stepped over with a short nod at the man - basically to release the girl, and Hayley wrapped an arm around her back and held her shoulder, placing herself between the man and the girl.
But when they headed for the building, and the man stayed back, Nick finally whispered. "What's happening?"
"Bathroom break."
Nick looked to her, a bit confused. "Really? Usually unless we're-"
"There's no more stops between here and our destination." Hayley told her, and Nick looked to her fast before slowly facing forward - but as they headed for the door and inside, Hayley gave a smile to the man at the counter, before moving the girl over towards the back. "I know what you're thinking, but don't."
"I'm not gonna run, I wouldn't make it a mile."
"But you thought of it." Hayley gave her a look, and Nick pursed her lips with a short nod. "I also debated hotwiring a car but I don't know how to drive."
Now Hayley cracked a small smile, "You know how to hotwire a car?"
Nick shrugged, and Hayley just nods. "You go first, just know Kahlil's men are all around the outside."
