Finding out Narcissa's secrets seemed to have changed Draco's opinion on his father. He used to hate his father for what he put him through. Now he despised him for what he put Draco's mother through.

Draco for the past few weeks since that meeting with his mum had began wondering about the kind of life he could have had. The one he almost had. Where he and his mum escaped and went to live with Jonathan.

A life where he wasn't forced to be on the side of evil but would have been free to make his own decisions. Where he wouldn't have been raised to believe that he was better than anyone.

It was one evening in my dorm room when he first openly discussed what would have been's. Pansy and Daphne were in the boy's dorms with Blaise and Theo and it was one of those rare evenings when we were alone.

"Can you imagine if I didn't have to become a Deatheater? How different my life would have been? Or if I was raised by this Ministry guy as opposed to Lucius. Maybe he would have taught me manners and how to behave around other people."

"Who knows? Maybe I would have even liked you sooner?"

"Yeah we would have been each others first loves. Not that I would want to take away what you and Fred had. It seemed special."

"It was...until it wasn't. He broke up with me, remember?"

"You never did tell me why?"

"Well I was a Slytherin. There was always the prejudice thing going against us. We didn't have the same friends, we weren't in the same year and therefore not in the same class. He didn't like my friendship with Blaise either."

"With Blaise?"

"Yeah. Remember Blaise was the first friend I had in Hogwarts. We have always been friends and he used to sit in the courtyard and eat lunch with me whenever you and Pansy would tease me about being friends with Hermione or Luna."

"I am sorry about that."

"Don't be silly. It was in the past. Anyway, it became a tradition of ours that we would eat together on Saturday afternoons and then go to the Quidditch pitch and take a walk around the stands. Fred never liked that. I know he trusted me, that wasn't the issue at all but he thought that maybe Blaise liked me and was trying to spend time alone with me to put a wedge between us. He would never come right out and say it but he always made these snide little comments about us being so close."

"So he broke up with you?"

"Yeah I was breaking up my Hogsmeade visits. On the Saturday I would so with him and then on the Sunday I would go with Blaise. He hated that. One evening he was in a bad mood. We had just spent all day together and he wanted me to go with him to Hogsmeade again the next day to go to Zonko's as he forgot a few things. I said that I was taking Blaise to the Three Broomsticks to meet his uncle. He was mad. He gave me an ultimatum. Him or my friends."

"Really?"

"Yeah I told him that he was cruel for trying to make me chose. It was a dick move I think I said. So, he broke up with me. He tried to apologise many times and George told me he wanted me back, but it was too late. I was so annoyed at him for trying to make me chose. After that it would never have worked. We were better off as friends."

"And then you met a handsome beast?"

"I wouldn't call Cedric a beast!"

Draco frowned. "That's not who I meant."

"I know and Cedric and me were never really a thing for long. I liked you and he like Cho Chang."

"But you still spent quite a lot of time with him in our fourth year of school. He used to walk you to classes and you sat outside with him at lunch. It is impossible to chat with you when he was not there. And when you came to the common room at night, you spent all your time sending notes and love letters to him."
