The day of the ball everyone in the school was buzzing. The younger kids were very jealous and were gossiping about what everyone would be wearing or who their dates would be.
Most of your year were missing at lunch but you assumed it was because they were busy priming and prepping for the ball. It was just you and Luna today but you didn't mind this as you found great company in Luna and loved having her around.
Another 7th year in the hall was Draco. You actually hadn't even noticed he was there with Astoria just a few seats down from you until you heard her begin to sob.
"It's awful!" she cried.
"Why are you making a big deal out of this? It's a fucking bowtie!" Draco asked through clenched teeth.
Astoria gave another over dramatic sob. "She has ruined the whole night!"
"How exactly has my mother ruined your night that has not started yet?"
"Because I told her the colour of my dress so you could match me and she has given you a completely different colour. We will look stupid. Don't you have another you can wear?"
"A bow tie isn't exactly something I carry with me, you bimbo!"
"Don't call me that. This is your mother's entire fault. She hates me!"
"She doesn't. I mean she doesn't exactly like you but you insulted her taste and home."
"It is an ugly painting."
"Tori I am not arguing about this again."
"Fine!" she stamped her foot and marched off. You were a little surprised. You knew Astoria was spoilt as she was a real daddy's girl but you never expected her to act so bratty and childish.
Draco turned, spotted you and Luna and slid down the bench to sit opposite you. "Can I eat with you two? I need to be with adults for a while. I am sick of babysitting."
"Sure," Luna responds and looks to you.
"Is that ok Evee?"
"Yeah it's fine."
"So are you girls ready for the ball?" he asks.
"Oh yes. We met your mother the other day and she saw our dresses." Luna explains.
"You did? Both of you?"
"We did," you answer. "Actually she bought us our dresses. She insisted on it."
"Well I am glad. You deserve the best." Draco gave you a genuine smile, which you returned.
"Then she and I had tea and a chat and –"
"Oh no! I am sorry for whatever she said to you."
"Don't be. It was lovely. I hope we can do it again soon."
"Oh...well...yes I mean that is great."
"Are you ok with that?"
"Of course. You know she adores you. I am sure she misses you very much."
"I have missed her terribly."
There is an awkward silence as the colour pools to Draco's cheeks.
"So are you going to tell us what that was about?" Luna asks nodding to the doors after Astoria.
"Oh. Apparently Astoria wrote to my mother to tell her the colour of dress she is wearing tonight and my mother decided that she didn't like me in red so she chose a dusky purple colour of a bow tie for me instead and pocket square to match."
