The moment Naina entered her home. She was welcomed by Sarita who held a broomstick in her hand. Naina gulped down nervously, flashing an anxious smile, and said - "Hi Aai."
"Hi Bala...aagaya maza?" Her mother asked her sarcastically.
"Bahut," Naina said happily.
"Dance wance kiya?" Sarita asked.
"Haan na...it was fun." Said Naina cheerfully, and was about to sit on the squeaky clean sofa, when the light hit on her arm made her whimper in pain, She looked at her mother with a confused face.
"Kay Zhala?" She queried.
(Kya hua?)
"Kapde dekho tumhare...aise me tumhe sofe pe baith na hai? Main kya ghar sara din isliye saaf karti rehti hoon taki tum log bahar se aake mast yahan baith jao...aur use ganda kar do." Sarita scolded her daughter in a stern voice, and Naina stood there like an obedient child, listening to her mother's rants with a lowered head. But her eyes widened the next moment when her dupatta slipped down, landing on the sofa. She quickly picked it up but it was already too late. The neat fabric was colored slightly, and this enraged Sarita even more.
"I will clean it." Assured Naina.
Sarita snared at the young girl, and taunted her - "Mujhe pata hai kitne ache se clean karti ho tum, aur kya harqatein ki hai tumne waha par? Sab kuch bataya mujhe Radhika ne...isliye nahi bhej rahi thi main tumhe, abhi tak bachi ho, sahi se kapde toh dhunde jate hai nahi tumse aur chali madam holi party manane."
"Aai, I don't know us thandai me kya milaya hua tha...uske pehle I was totally fine." Said Naina with a helpless expression.
"Bala, anjano ke waha jaogi toh yahi hoga na...humein kya pata hota hai ki woh log kaise hai, tum aaj kal ke bache ek toh...naak me dam kar rakha hai sab maa baap ke...kuch bhi samjhao, samjh hi nahi aata." Sarita expressed her disappointment over youngsters who irritate their parents without thinking about how much their careless behavior adds up more stress to them.
"Sorry Aai." Naina apologized.
"Ek baat suno ache se...2 saal tak tum kahi nahi jaogi except for the college trips. It's your punishment." Sarita said in a firm voice, and Naina knew now nothing could change her mother's decision, not even any superpowers. She let out a deep sigh and bobbed her head in agreement.
"Good...jao jake fresh ho jao." She ordered her.
Naina turned to go when Sarita asked her in a soft voice - "Kuch khaya tumne?"
"Haan, raste me sabne milkar street pe vada pav aur pav bhaji khayi thi. It was so yummy." Naina answered her mother with a sweet smile, and Sarita started again - "Very Nice...yeh sab junk food me doob jao tum, ghar pe aai healthy khana banati hai woh toh muh me jata hai nahi. Mujhe kya, bigado apni health, waise bhi kaunsa sunne wali ho tum mera."
Naina rolled her eyes in annoyance, wondering when her mother would understand that she can't eat the same boring Roti Sabzi every day for lunch and dinner. She wants new and tasty food, something which can make her feel satisfied, not annoyed.
"Jao ab...yahan kya khadi ho." Sarita's stern voice broke the chain of her thoughts, and Naina quickly rushed inside her bedroom, closing the door lightly.
"Ufff...aaj toh bach gayi, pata nahi aaj mujhe aai jhadu, chappal, belan aur kitni chizon se peetne wali thi." Mused Naina with a relieved expression, and exhaled out a deep breath. She went to the closet and took out a knee-length loose yellow one-piece.
