Short Leap...

Naina, Prashant, and Nishikant came to the college where her name was selected on the cut-off list. They wanted to investigate if the environment around the college is healthy for this fragile girl and if the people coming here are good or impolite. Nishikant took the deposit amount with himself in advance, if in case, they liked this college and needed to pay the fee right away. Naina was happily looking across the printed banners and posters of some upcoming competition with a different kind of exuberance on her shimmering face...she was super excited to start her College Life, and study Arts, her favorite stream.

"Everything looks nice here," Prashant commented happily.

"Yes, the staff are so decent and well-dressed...also the students don't seem harmful," Nishikant added.

"Harmful koi kaise dikhega ek hi nazar me?" Naina said practically.

"That's true too." Prashant agreed.

"But yeh college ka bahut naam hai...agar yahan ache log nahi aate padhne toh inki reputation kharab hoti." Said Nishikant thoughtfully, and gazed around the youngsters.

"I'm not blaming the entire college, what I mean to say is at first sight pe we can't make a judgment on anyone," Naina replied to him with a slight smile and was ambling toward the cafeteria where students can eat, have fun, and gossip during the free-time.

"Tumhe toh yahi padhna hai na waise bhi," Nishikant asked his daughter confusingly, and She nodded.

"Yes! Radhika bhi yahi admission lene wali hai...and maybe Pratiksha bhi." Naina said enthusiastically.

"Toh tujhe iske liye yahan padhai karni hai because your friends will study here?" Prashant asked his sister with a raised eyebrow, and She assured him - "No Dada, maine toh aise hi kaha tha normally."

"Toh yeh done? Dekho aur ek college me tumhara select hua hai, woh bhi acha hi hai." Nishikant looked at his daughter with a solemn face.

"This one is better and near to our house," Naina said mirthfully.

"Ok, no problem...I am satisfied with the outer side." Her father uttered, with a pleasant smile on his face.

Prashant was silent all the time the father and daughter were discussing. He was keenly staring at a girl sitting far from them, who seemed too familiar. She was sitting with two boys who looked young like her. He strenuously tried to recall if he had seen her somewhere in the malls, public areas, or marketplaces. Then suddenly the girl stood up and elegantly walked towards the dustbin to throw the used tissue paper. He slightly tilted his head in curiosity to see her face clearly, and his eyes widened up in terror when he remembered who this girl was.

"Naina...yeh teri wahi friend haina jo us din cinema hall me mili thi?" Prashant impatiently tapped his hand on his younger sister's shoulder while pointing his finger at the front side, and Naina quickly looked back at Ankita with horror immediately covering her face.

"Ahh...haan." She said in a low voice.

"What is she doing here?" He asked her restlessly, his eyes looking in her direction without shame.

"I Don't Know," Naina said anxiously.

"How don't you know? You're her friend na." Prashant questioned.

"Yes, of course...but nowadays we don't talk," Naina replied to him with fake solemnity in her voice.

"Kyu? Kya hogaya aisa?" He asked her carefully.
