Nishikant was studying the new diseases with thick spectacles on his eyes, and a book in his hands. Sarita was glancing at her husband's serene posture from the mirror while applying night cream on her face and felt this was the right time to talk to him regarding Naina's wedding with Sameer.
She took a deep breath, recited bappa's name, and plopped on the bed, giving a thin smile when Nishikant looked at her affectionately.
Sarita moistened her lips and asked him gently - "Kuch important hai?"
"Nahi, thodi study karli thi maine dupeher me." Nishikant closed the book and kept it on the table beside their bed. He took off his specs, placed them inside the box, and veered to his nervous wife.
"Do you want to say something?" He asked her with a calm smile.
"Umm yeah Nish, don't you feel we're doing injustice to our daughter?" Sarita questioned him with serenity in her voice, and Nishikant dejectedly sighed while saying in a stern voice - "Kya kehna chahti ho tum sidhe sidhe kaho."
"Nish, see...Naina's happiness always mattered to us, am I wrong?" Sarita held his hand, staring at him meekly, and he hummed.
"Then why can't we get her married to Sameer? Woh dono ek dusre se pyar karte hai...ek dusre ko leke sure hai, phir hume kyu problem hai?" She asked him with puzzlement while frowning at her husband, who was reflecting disinterest.
"I am feeling sleepy. Good Night." Nishikant said in a low voice, retouching the pillow behind his back.
"Fine, avoid this topic as much as you want...but aakhir ek na ek din toh faisla lena hi padega na." She spoke with a miffed face, her tone vexed.
"Kaunsa faisla? I already announced she won't marry him at any cost." He looked back at her with a strange calmness on his face.
Sarita shut her eyes to take a relaxing breath, and stared at him with tranquility - "Itna pressure mat dalo Nish humari beti pe, kahi woh bhaag ke shadi na kar le. Tumhi socho ek baar use kitna bura lagta hoga yeh soch ke ki humne khushi khushi Prashant ki love marriage accept ki par uske time itna objection dikha rahe hai. Agar yehi tumhare time bhi hota toh? Agar mere aai baba raazi nahi hote toh tumhe kaisa lagta? Ek baar Naina ke bare me bhi toh socho na zara."
Nishikant surprisingly looked at his wife, his eyes glowing with akin fear on his face. He gulped down, flickering his eyelashes while pondering over Sarita's questions. She was indeed right, they were doing partiality with Naina because of no strong reason, and giving her more affliction. He exhaled loud breaths, opening and shutting his eyes with anxiety hugging him.
Sarita rushed to hold his hand which trembled a little because of her touch, and Nishikant restlessly looked at his wife - "Nish, humne bachpan se Naina ko sab kuch diya hai...we never kept her deprived of anything, then now why aren't we letting her marry the person she loves the most? Future me jo hoga woh dekh lenge, at least present toh mat bigado...Prashant sirf tumhe provoke karne ki koshish kar raha hai Sameer ke against, but trust me. He isn't a bad guy. You both humiliated him and his family without any mercy, and yet he did not answer in response. Kaun itna sunke lega batao tumhi? Tumhe khud ko bura nahi laga khamakha unki itni insult karne ke liye?"
"Do you think I am doing wrong?" Nishikant asked his wife in a low voice.
"Maybe!" Pausing for a few seconds. Sarita continued with more pleading in her voice - "Ek baat batao...kya tumhe accha lagega jab humari beti ki shadi aise kisi anjaan ameer ladke se hogi jisko na toh woh janti hai na hi pyaar karti hai. Agar usne humare khatir arrange marriage kar bhi li toh bhi uska dil sirf Sameer ke waha rahega, aur aisi shadi kabhi nahi tik pati zyada jahan pyaar ki jagah sirf compromises, adjustments, aur sacrifices ho, pehle ka zamana alag tha, aaj kal ki duniya me aadhe se zyada divorce isi wajah se ho rahe hai kyuki do log shadi me khush nahi reh pate...aur phir unka mann bahar bhatak jata hai. Please don't ruin her future because of your ego. She is our daughter for god's sake, Nish, agar hum maa baap hoke uski khushi nahi dekhege toh kaun dekhega, batao?"
