As soon as Steve heard Bucky say that he wanted his help moving furniture and things into him and aspens room, he knew Bucky was using it as an excuse, he really just needed to talk to Steve about something. Steve just didn't know what.
He still went along with it. He figured it was a conversation Bucky didn't want to happen in front of Aspen for whatever reason. But Bucky was strong enough to do it all himself so there was no need for him to ask for help.
They go into Bucky's room together and Bucky shits the door behind them. Steve doesn't waste any time asking Bucky what he was up to.
"So I know you don't need help moving your things." Steve tells him. "You can do it yourself." He says. "I'm surprised Aspen didn't pick up on it." He adds.
He was surprised, so was Bucky, because Aspen knew better, she knew Bucky didn't need help so she must have either been not paying attention or her mind had been somewhere else. Bucky thought it was the latter because Aspen had been acting strange lately.
"So what do you really need?" Steve asks. Bucky had brought Steve to talk to him because of how Aspen had been acting, he was worried, he was scared, he didn't want to scare her away, he thought he had.
He thought all the baby and marriage talk was why she was freaking out why she was acting weird. It was the only explanation. He was scared that she was freaking out because she changed her mind, because she didn't want that with him anymore, and if that was the case, he didn't know how he was supposed to handle it.
Aspen was the one person who had been there for him throughout everything, Steve couldn't be, Bucky didn't blame him, but he knew Aspen was there. If he lost her, he lost himself, it was the last thing he wanted.
"I think she's freaking out Steve." Bucky tells him. Steve heard the obvious fear in his voice, the pain. He didn't want to jump to conclusions but it was too late, his mind had already jumped. And he trusted Aspen he knew she loved him but he still feared the worst, he had no idea what to do.
"Why?" Steve asked. He didn't know about the conversation Bucky and Aspen had about marriage and about the future. "About what?" He asks. He needed the full story in order to help.
He knew his sister and he knew if Bucky told her what was going on he could figure out exactly what Aspen had going on. And Bucky knew Aspen better than anyone, he could figure it out too but his emotions got in the way he couldn't see things clearly he was too close.
"We talked about marriage and babies and she's been acting weird since." Bucky tells him. That didn't make since to Steve though. Aspen had always wanted a family so he didn't understand either. He wanted to keep asking questions, there had to be another reason why she was acting weird.
"Why? She's always wanted a family." Steve says. "I don't know. Maybe she changed her mind after she said it maybe she doesn't want it with me." Bucky says.
Steve knew that wasn't true. There was no way she changed her mind about wanting a family and she loved Bucky more than anything, so it couldn't be that she didn't want it with him either.
"She does. She wouldn't have said she did if she didn't." Steve tells him. Aspen wouldn't say something like that lightly either. She thought things through she never said anything she didn't mean, especially to Bucky, the last thing she would ever want was to lead him on or hurt him. He had already been hurt more than anyone should be. She couldn't add to his pain.
"Are you sure?" Bucky asks. "Steve I don't want to scars her away." He tells him. "You were assassins together. You went through hell together." Steven tells him. "If what you went through together Wasn't enough to scare her away, nothing will." Steven told him. And he firmly believed that.
"She loved you." He tells Bucky. "I don't know why she's been quiet but it's not because she changed her mind." Steve says. "Talk to her." He tells him.
"I want to propose to her Steve." Bucky blurred out. Steve was confused. He had just said he didn't want to scare her away and now he was saying he wanted to propose to her. It was an awfully quick change.
He was amused though. And if he wanted anyone to marry his little sister, he would want it to be Bucky. A goofy smirk spread across his lips and he let out a little chuckle, shaking his head. His best friend was going to marry his little sister.
