Bucky had forgotten about it, Aspen was more important than the proposal that he could do later. She wanted to leave so he would take her to their room and he would propose another way, he didn't want her to be uncomfortable, but Nat took the chance, and she wanted to see this through for both of them. "A song?" Aspen asked. Bucky grabbed his beer and he downed it. It was time.
Bucky looked at Aspen and he smiled. "Will you dance with me doll?" He asked her. Aspen smiled and shook her head, she was amused and confused. Dancing was Bucky and Aspen's things in the forties, before everything, and they hadn't danced since then. She knew he was up to something with this, she just wasn't sure what it was just yet.
"Dance?" She asked him. "Babe you havnt danced in forever." She tells him. Bucky smiles at her. "I know." He tells her. His smile brighter than ever. He looked at Aspen, and all the nervousness faded away. This is what he had wanted forever. He wanted her forever. "Okay." Aspen agrees.
A song starts playing, "I don't dance." By Lee Brice. It's loud, everyone stops talking and watches them. Bucky takes aspens hand in his, they ignore the people around them and all they pay attention to is one another. Everyone watches the two of them but they only watch each other.
As Bucky spins Aspen around the room, memories of their lives flood in, they remember everything they went through, everything that brought them to where they were today. In each others arms. Oblivious to the world around them.
Meeting one another, their promise to Steve, nights at the bar together, dancing until they dropped. Post serum. Missions together. Their one final mission together, Bucky falling off the train, Aspen jumping off the train after him. The years upon years of hydra torture. Being frozen...
Being saved by Steve. Hydra being erased from their minds. Them walking around eggshells when they got to the compound, except around each other. Their first kiss. The night they told each other they loved one another, and everything since then.
And as the music died, as the song faded away, Bucky dipped Aspen, holding her close, their faces inches apart, and he smiled at her. "Will you marry me Aspen?" Aspen smiled. "Yes." She said. Their dreams were coming true...
