"I want to propose to her Steve." Bucky blurred out. Steve was confused. He had just said he didn't want to scare her away and now he was saying he wanted to propose to her. It was an awfully quick change.
He was amused though. And if he wanted anyone to marry his little sister, he would want it to be Bucky. A goofy smirk spread across his lips and he let out a little chuckle, shaking his head. His best friend was going to marry his little sister.
Bucky had wanted this forever though. There was no question about it. He loved her more than anything. He knew that since the moment he saw her. He was scared of scaring her away but at the same time he knew he wouldn't, he knew she loved him. He wanted more than anything to build a life with her.
But he still needed Steve's approval his permission and his opinion. "You think it's a bad idea?" Bucky asks. Especially since Steve was making the face he did, the smirk and then the smile the laugh, he didn't know exactly what that was supposed to mean.
"You were just worried you were going to scare her away." Steven explained. "Now you're going to propose?" He asks. He was all for it. He wanted Bucky to propose but he wanted to make sure Bucky wanted to because he went from being scared of scaring her away to wanting to propose.
"I've wanted to propose for a while." Bucky explains to Steve. "But I didn't know she wanted it." He adds. "Do you have a ring?" Steve asks. But he already knew the answer because he knew his best friend.
Bucky shrugged his shoulders and tried to hide his smile. "How long?" Steve asked with a smile. "I bought it right after she got better from her appendicitis." Bucky admits.
"That was months ago." Steve points out. He didn't know why Bucky would wait so long if he had bought the ring months ago. Why did he wait until now? But he also knew that Bucky was very serious about proposing to her. Because he bought her a ring before they even really said I love you to each other.
Bucky had proven to Steve that he had loved his sister since he first met her. And that he loved her more than anything, he never had to question his loyalty to Aspen because Bucky always proved how much he cared about her, how much he loved her.
And the same with Aspen and Bucky. Steve knew Aspen loved him more than anything. He knew Aspen would never hurt him. He never had to question their relationship. Hs approved the two of them together, he thought if anyone were to stay together forever and could get through anything, it was Aspen and Bucky.
"I know. I just didn't know if it was too soon. Then she said she wanted to now she's quiet." Bucky explains to Steve. "so do it. She's Aspen. She's unpredictable. Who knows why she's quiet." Steve tells him.
Aspen was always having weird mood swings too. Sometimes she was bouncing off the walls sometimes she was so quiet you didn't even know she was in the room. "she'll say yes if you propose." Steve tells him.
"She loves you. I don't know how many times You have to be told." Steve says. He was right. Bucky didn't have to be told. He knew Aspen loved him and she would say yes. But he had trust issues. He had to get all the self doubt out of his mind and be one hundred percent sure. Aspen was the one thing in his life he didn't ever want to lose he wouldn't make it if he lost her. He didn't want to take any chances.
And Bucky and Steve being old, the times where they grew up, Bucky loved going back to that, he loved doing things the old fashioned way. So he wanted to ask Steve. He wanted his blessing.
"So I have your blessing?" Bucky asked Steve. An amused smile spread across Steve's face. He knew Bucky loved doing things the old fashioned way, but he didn't know he needed him to straight up say I give you my blessing. But he wasn't surprised either. And he actually found comfort in the fact that Bucky had to ask. That he had to hear Steve say it.
"Can I ask Aspen to marry me?" Bucky asks. A smile on his face. He knew Steve's answer. He couldn't help but smile at the thought of marrying Aspen....
