Before going to Bruce, Aspen had to collect herself. She went into her bathroom and locked the door behind her. And she cried. That wasn't necessarily collecting herself, but she needed to get it out. She needed to do something to try and get the pain she was feeling to stop. She needed to breath. So she cried it out. She still felt dizzy and nauseous. Her head was pounding. Her stomach hurt. She felt like death. Which made her want to die even more. The feeling wouldn't subside. It just wouldn't go away.
She finally forced herself to stop crying after about twenty more minutes of this. She cleaned herself up. Washed her face. Blew her nose. Washed her face again. And then she felt an overwhelming sense of nausea come over her. She flung herself over the toilet and threw up, she got sick until she couldn't anymore. Until there was nothing left for her to throw up but stomach acid. She figured it was just from stress, and being upset. So she cleaned herself up once again. She drank some water. And she finally let herself out of her bathroom to go find Bruce. It was time for her to stop stalling. She needed answers. Now.
The rest of the team had left while she was in the bathroom trying to collect herself. She was surprised Bucky didn't try and find her again before he left but Tony probably made them leave before he had the chance to run off and find her again. And she was glad he didn't have a chance to come find her. She would have fallen apart if she had to face him before knowing for sure. Fallen apart more than she already had.
And she knew Bucky wouldn't be able to handle not knowing for sure either. And it would take a while for the DNA test. Time they didn't have. It would completely ruin him for the mission. And it would thing her having to see him without knowing. She practically ran to Bruce after leaving the bathroom. She needed to know. She knew she looked a mess and asking for a DNA test would be weird, she knew she would have to explain it to him, she didn't want to, but she had to, and she's rather tell Bruce than anyone else because Bruce was super chill and minded his own business, and didn't share anyone else's.
She rushed into the lab and Bruce's head snapped up as soon as she entered the room. "Bruce I need your help." She told him. Slightly panting from running. She was fit, she was a super soldier. But the crying, the throwing up, and running all together, it would be enough to wind anybody. Even a super soldier. "Okay..." Bruce said. He tilted his head, looking at Aspen confused. Wondering what she could need his help with. He ran his eyes over her and saw there was nothing visibly wrong with her. "What's wrong?" he asked.
Aspen could go on. She had a whole fucking list of what was wrong. But she decided she would just stick with what exactly she came there for. "I need you to test my DNA." Aspen told him. She was honestly praying right now that he didn't ask why. He nodded and started walking around the lab. He was grabbing equipment he needed to do the DNA test. "Okay." Bruce said. He continues to move about. Aspen was relieved, he said okay, he was going about his business, He hadn't asked her why. She took a breath, exhaled.
"But can I ask why?" He asks. Well shit. Just as she thought she wouldn't have to explain herself. She thought to hell with it. Why not. She would tell him. He asked nicely after all. People would find out eventually. He would find out as soon as the results for the test came back. So why not just tell him now. "Steve told me I was adopted." She says. Bruce stopped grabbing materials, and looked at Aspen, his eyes wide with disbelief and shock. "I need to see if he's telling the truth and I need to find who my birth parents are if he is..." she tells him.
Bruce tries to compose himself. Trying not to look too shocked, he could see on her face she had been crying and was upset so he tried to be respectful. "okay, let me get some blood and I'll let you know when I find everything." He tells her. Aspen nods and sits on the exam table. "Okay. How long should it take?" Aspen asks him while he finishes grabbing everything he needs. "A couple hours." He tells her. She nods and watches everything that he's doing. He grabbed a needle, a vile, gauze, and a tourniquet.
He ties the tourniquet around her arm and inserts the needle into her vein after sterilizing. "Thank you Bruce." She tells him. "And please..." she starts, his eyes meet herself and she pleads, "don't tell anyone." She asks. She didn't want anyone to know until she knew for sure. Bruce nods, "of course." He tells her. "It's not my secret to tell." He says. Which he was right, it wasn't, and she didn't expect and less from him, she just wanted to make sure. Bruce wasn't the kind of person to tell secrets or spread rumors.
After getting her blood taken, Aspen went into her room and laid on her bed. She stared at the ceiling until Bruce called her back into the lab an hour later. She walked into the lab and stayed standing up. She didn't want to sit when she got the news. She might have to get up and run to the bathroom to throw up. "You found something already?" Aspen asks, surprised it hadn't taken that long. "it was really easy since your
DNA already matched somebody in the compound." Bruce says. Aspen felt sick to her stomach. She was about to throw up again. "oh god...I'm gonna be sick." Aspen says. Before she can get sick, Bruce catches her off guard. "I would be sick if I were related to Tony too." Bruce says. Aspens eyes widen in shock and she just looks at Bruce. That's not what she expected. But at least it wasn't Bucky she was related to. "Wait what?"
