(Y/n)'s POV

The street was suddenly too quiet, too empty. All that could be heard were our footsteps and that of our pursuer. I had my hand in Reki's whilst the other was clenching Langa's sleeve.

"Are you gonna fight?" Reki whispered.
"Yeah, you two step back."

Langa grabbed my hand before I could turn and confront our mysterious 'friend'.

"They look like they're a professional," he exclaimed.
"Are you worried about me? Aww how sweet."
"(Y/n)-"

I shot him a glare, hoping to remind him that he shouldn't behave like this, not when his mother's life was in my hands. I shook his hand off and turned to face our pursuer, who stopped a few metres away. Neither Reki and Langa had run like I had asked them to. A sigh left my lips despite the smile tugging at the corners of my mouth.

"Why are you following us?"
"You're (Y/n)," she seethed.
"So what?"
"Your uncle killed my dad."
"Then your dad must've been an annoying pest."
"How dare you!"

She charged towards me with the speed of lightning, giving me little time to block her kick. I aimed a punch at her though she was quick to dodge, her movements lethal and experienced.

We traded blow for blow, my fist connecting with her jaw before her foot pushed into my stomach. I fell back just as she did, clutching my body as laboured pants escaped my lips. She immediately charged again, her punches and kicks growing faster.

I pulled out a small knife, digging the blade into her arm before dragging inwards. She cursed and jumped back. Eyeing her movements, I could see her gaze slip toward my friends. Without thinking, I pushed them out of the way as a dart came flying and pierced my leg.

"(Y/n)!"
"Reki, get back. She's stronger than me. I don't know how long I'll be able to-"
"You done talking yet? I'm getting bored waiting," she exclaimed.

She ran towards me but immediately swerved to the right when I threw the dart back at her. I aimed a kick; however, she grabbed my leg and flung me over her back. I grabbed onto an abandoned stick, flipping a few times to regain my balance.

A satisfied smirk pulled at my mouth as she growled angrily. Her movements suddenly became even faster. I was defending more than attacking, trying to look for an opening between her punches.

"Need some help?"

Jun jumped in between us, snaking an arm around me to spin us away from the girl's incoming kick.

"I could've avoided that by myself."
"Come on, cut me some slack and let me play the part of a knight in shining armour," he teased.
"In your dreams."

We began attacking the mysterious girl, retreating and protecting one another from her lethal forces. Jun and I worked in sync, managing to force her into defence. She utilised her darts to counterattack my blade though eagerly used them against Jun. He was quick to dodge every one.

I suddenly leaned heavily to the side before she kicked me with inhumane force. I crashed into a pile of cardboard boxes lying on the side of the street. My vision blurred, my head pounded. Was that dart from earlier poisoned?

Arms wrapped around my body, lifting me onto someone's lap. I could barely manage a whisper nor could I identify who had me tucked in a cocoon of warmth. My eyes slowly drifted closed.

Reki's POV

I clenched my fists as (Y/n) closed her eyes and her head fell against my chest. Jun was having a difficult time holding back our pursuer but it wasn't long before his dad arrived and subdued her.

"Reki, the hospital," Langa said urgently.
"Jun!"
"Dad, we need to get to the hospital now!" he shouted.
"Fine. You two, lock up this nuisance until I get back," Kenta ordered.

Two men immediately grabbed the girl and dragged her away. I took (Y/n) within my arms and rushed with Jun and his dad to the car. All this time, Langa had been staring intently at our unconscious friend as if he still harboured a sliver of love for her.

The ride to the hospital seemed to take an eternity. (Y/n)'s breathing was fast and shallow, a cold sweat coating her skin. I clenched my teeth, hating how powerless I had been; hating how (Y/n) was always doing the protecting. I needed to get stronger.

~A few hours later~

Jun had fallen asleep on the sofa, leaving Langa with no choice but to sit on the floor. He hadn't moved an inch for the time we had been here, save for his careful breathing and constant fidgeting with his skateboard. Kenta had left earlier to interrogate the girl though we had yet to hear from him.

"Reki?"

I immediately turned my attention back to (Y/n), who offered a small smile. A relieved sigh left my lips before I pulled her in for a hug. The tension was released from my body when her warm arms tightened around my back.

"You idiot, don't ever do that again."
"I didn't die," she retorted.
"You very well could've! Who knows what kinda poison she could've used!"
"...I'm just glad you're safe."
"I'm the one who should be saying that."
"You guys, quiet down a bit. I can hear you from my dream," Jun exclaimed groggily.
"That's good. We saved the girls in your dream from your harassment," (Y/n) teased.
"I take back my relief. Go back to being Sleeping Beauty."

A snicker escaped my throat but a half-hearted glare from (Y/n) only made me laugh harder. Langa suddenly stood and walked to the door. I stopped him, trying to find some sort of opening to his thoughts but he had closed off his emotions.

"Ayaka texted me. I'm going to meet her," he said.
"Oi, (Y/n) just woke up and you're just going to leave without saying anything to her?"
"What is there to say? She doesn't seem to be ill anymore."
"Why are you acting like this? Do you honestly not care for her at all?"
"No."
"Then why did you stay? Look me in the eye and tell me that you hate her."
"Guys, you're really gonna fight in front of (Y/n)?" Jun asked.

I looked at (Y/n), noticing the sorrow she immediately hid behind a mask. Her hands were clenched together as if the world had dealt her a bad hand. Langa abruptly left and it was then that I caught a glimpse of the girl (Y/n) had kept hidden, the girl who was screaming for help.
