Something was definitely wrong, indicated by the emergency meeting called at 9 a.m. instead of the usual shoot. The main cast as well as the Director and the producers were all gathered in the room..
"Thank you all for coming on such short notice." The Director wore a solemn expression as he stood to address the group. "So far, we have been doing wonderful work to create a beautiful series together and I want to thank each and everyone one of you."
The man looked close to tears as he struggled for words. The room was silent, anxiety palpable.
"Unfortunately, we have come up on a little problem." he twisted his hands together while the producers hung their heads, their own eyes glassy.
Jorah looked around the room, every face was now worry worn.
"Unfortunately. "The Director made a second attempt. "We might not be able to finish production."
"What?"
A collective outburst of shock rippled through the room as they all looked at each other, asking questions. Wondering what happened.
The Director raised his hands to get their attention once more. "It's now a matter of funding." he continued to explain. "In addition to our producers, we had a number of investors for the project. Sadly two of the biggest ones have pulled out." He sighed. "We have gone over the numbers repeatedly . We spent all night looking at it but we just don't see how it will be possible to continue without compromising the quality of the project."
Shock reverberated around the room again.
"But why?"
"They can't do this.."
"What happened?"
Jorah frowned. "I don't understand. We attended the event with the sponsors two days ago and everything was fine. Did it not go well?"
The people in the room nodded.
"It did." The Director replied. "And they were excited to partner. However, yesterday they called to say that they would no longer be able to be a part of the project."
"Did they say why?" Jorah asked, surprisingly leading the discussion. It was funny. He had fantasized and fervently hoped something would happen to this series to get him out of it but now that he was actually faced with the possibility, he wasn't happy.
"Uh.." The Director looked at Jorah. "I think they said it was not in their best interest to support the project due to some other partnerships that they had."
Jorah's brow creased deeply. This was truly beginning to stink.
He wanted to ask another question but he refrained.
"To not just end so abruptly. We will finish shooting for this week. Again. Thank you all for your time."
Gloom was etched on every face as they left that room. Norris looked particularly heartbroken to hear he wouldn't get to finish his first project. The Director sat at the table, his head in his hands.
Jorah waited until everyone left before he approached the man.
"Jorah." he looked up. "You're still here."
"Who were the investors that pulled out?" he asked.
"Wha-?"
"Who were they?" Jorah asked again
The Director sighed. "It doesn't really matter.."
"Who?" Jorah asked again more forcefully.
"Serafim and Micah Minerals."
