Warning : violence and gore

Adam gritted his teeth, forcing his quick breathing to calm down. He took in gulps of air as his eyes quickly scanned his surroundings. He wouldn't be able to get to his spear without fighting the lizards, as they were directly beside it. It was a four against one situation, his opponents all armed while he had no weapon.

Or did he?

The warrior's body stiffened at the thought before relaxing, a smirk making his way into his face. Feeling the change in the air, the monsters flattered on their momentum, glancing at each other in confusion.

"Please, make it work..." Adam mumbled before dropping in a squat. His hands violently collided with the ground as he shouted, the ground shaking all around them as he squeezed his eyes. All around the warrior, the greenery became covered by a small snow duvet until ice spikes started forming near the lizards. Before the monsters could calm down from their shock, they had been surrounded by ice spikes bigger than them.

Adam knew he couldn't make the ice strong enough to kill all four lizards in one go, it was too much dispersion to do. However, keeping them captive for even a few seconds was enough for him to get his spear back.

The warrior ran for his weapon, dropping into a roll when nearing his target. He gripped the handle tightly as his body continued its progression until a few feet away. The human crouched a little farther away from the lizards, walking in a crab position to avoid the monsters' eyes as they tried to break away the ice surrounding them.

As they started to chip the ice, their guards relaxed from the joy.

Adam jumped on the occasion, literally. He swung his spear high in the air, spinning it around for more power, before bringing it down on the head of an unsuspecting lizard. He pierced it in one swift throw, hurrying away in quick jumps before the three lizards left could react.

The other monsters let out angry screams at the human, breaking away from their ice prison and angrily charging toward their foe.

"Uh ho, they are really pissed off..." Adam noted with a nervous chuckle as he evaded the attacks coming his way as best as he could. His side hurt a lot, along with the big cut on his thigh and all the small cuts and bruises around his body. His energy was starting to get low, and a lot of his mana had been drained as he had had to create the ice with what little water the ground and greenery around him contained.

The fight was starting to take a toll on his body.

Still, he wasn't the only one affected. Two of the five lizards were dead, and the remaining three were furious beyond reason, making rookie mistakes, their moves jerky and their ability to control mana weakening due to the uncontrollable emotions.

The sun was slowly setting down as their fight continued, and Adam knew it meant he had to end it quickly. Monsters were stronger in the dark, and the lizards weren't the only opponents he would have to face at night. Injured as he was, he couldn't let this drag on any longer and possibly attract more monsters.

He had to use any opportunity he could.

The warrior counter-attacked one of the lizards by swinging his spear under the sword the monster was pointing at him, making the lizard throw his arm up to catch his flying sword. Not caring whether the others attacked him, Adam pierced the lizard's heart, reaching his original quota. Before he could rejoice, the warrior saw from the corner of his eye a sword heading toward his stomach. In a desperate attempt to protect his vulnerable point, he twisted his body in the opposite direction, his breath cutting off from the pain in his ribs, but at least the sword only slashed the side of his stomach.

Adam grunted at the pain, the sword's rusty edges dragging his skin instead of simply cutting it like a well sharpened sword would. Bright scarlet blood flowed down on his shirt and pants, but the warrior didn't have time to bandage his wound, making small jumps to avoid the lizards's renewed attacks.

There were two left.

The lizards circled around him like predators looking at their dying prey. Adam understood them, he didn't look exactly full of life and vigor. However, it was a newbie mistake to underestimate him.

His left arm formed a strange angle as he swung his spear toward the lizard on his right, the monster swiftly crouching down to avoid the incoming blade, and his comrade coming closer to attack Adam, only for an ice blade to form on the end of the spear. The lizard didn't have time to avoid and was instantly slashed against the stomach, its content spilling open and tainting the ground with blood and organs.

The lizard dropped to his knees, dead.

The survivor let out a shrill sound, standing back up and looking with vigilance at the human before it.

Adam dropped his center of gravity, walking nearly in a waltz with the lizard as they both analyzed the other, trying to see who had enough energy left and who would thus survive. His new move had worked like he had hoped, the monster intelligence too low to pick on the feint, but at what cost. His left arm was now dislocated from the power behind the ice blade, and he would have to put it back into place.

With one opponent left, he didn't have time to do it and could only rely on one arm and two legs.

Adam skipped to the left as the lizard charged toward him, wincing as his left arm swung around. His right hand holding the spear formed blisters as he maneuvered his weapon to defend or attack.

A wind blade came too fast, making him barely avoid it hitting his face. Instead, the attack cut into his eyebrow, blinding him temporarily from the blood seeping down, and surely leaving a scar for the future.

That is, if he had a future, because things sure looked uncertain right now.

Adam forced his body to pick up the space, trying to keep up with the lizard. The monster was tiring too, making him slower than he was at the beginning, but still faster than a normal human. It was unfair, Adam felt. He, too, wished he could go faster.

As the thought entered his brain, Adam's eyes widened.

The warrior conjured the last drop of mana he had inside, along with what little water he had around him, and froze the ground in a straight rectangle beside the lizard. The monster, too busy fighting and thinking he had missed his target, didn't pay it any attention.

Smirking directly, Adam gathered the last bit of energy he had and ran toward the rectangle. The lizard tried to go sideways to get out of his spear's reach, but it was too late. With the help of the frozen ground, Adam slid faster than he would have run toward the lizard, taking the monster by surprise, and slicing the beast's head off its neck.

The game had ended, Adam was the winner.

Hey dear readers, Adam won!
