"Oh... Sweetheart..." Evan mumbled as he checked his lover all over. He lifted the clothes covered in blood, relieved to confirm that his partner was in fact all healed up like Rick had said. Still, from the scar on Adam's eyebrow and thigh, along with the exhausted look on his hedgehog's face and all the blood, one could easily tell that the battle had been a ferocious one that could have ended badly.

The giant cradled his baby to his chest, holding him like a treasure as he stroked his hair and caressed his bruised skin. Evan pecked his sweetheart's head, before pecking his closed eyelids, his high cheek bone, his nose, his ear, his chin and then finishing with a gentle press of his lips on Adam's.

His hand was slightly shaking as he brushed aside the strands of hair that had fallen on Adam's face, taking his time to carve his lover's features in his mind.

He had been so close to losing the love of his life, it was terrifying.

Rick let the giant have his private moment, once again signaling the others to take away the bear and bring it back to the tribe. From the corner of his eyes, the scout saw the little snake beside his feet looking anxiously at his parents. Rick could tell it wasn't a stress created by the fear of not completing the trial.

No, it was a genuine stress of wanting to stop his Papa from hurting, but not having the will to interrupt this touching moment.

Rick let Evan have his moment for a few more minutes, before stepping closer cautiously, like one would do with a hurt animal, which was exactly what Evan currently was.

The giant was like a traumatized bear that had just found his injured soulmate. One wrong move and Rick felt like he would lose his head.

"What." Evan didn't even glance back as he barked out the word, still hurting over his lover's pain. He was moving back and forward, as if rocking Adam in a desperate attempt at making sure his sleep was deep and brought him plenty of rest.

"Well... You have a little friend here who's anxious to heal you too... It will also allow him to complete the trial and the four of us will be able to get back to the tribe where Adam will be able to get plenty of rest in his comfortable bed." Rick answered patiently, knowing that Evan didn't mean to be rude. The giant frowned, before remembering what the scout had said first. Ash had healed Adam, but he didn't remember seeing the shifter?

The giant glanced back toward the scout curiously, not letting his lover even a millimeter away from his body.

Rick, seeing the confusion on Evan's face, nodded toward his feet. The giant followed his line of sight and saw a pretty silver snake standing there. Seeing as he had his attention, the snake hissed softly with what appeared to be worried eyes. Evan blinked, then blinked again, wondering if he had hit his head while fighting.

"Go closer, Ash." Rick told the kid, hiding his amused smile. Seeing the huge protector looking so confused was pretty funny. The snake slowly slithered toward the giant, keeping watch on him and making sure that he didn't feel any ill intent from his Papa toward his scaley form.

"Ash...? Is that really you?" Evan asked, starting to see the resemblance between his son and the snake as the reptile came closer. The snake bobbed his head and as he reached the giant, Evan let down one hand holding Adam, stretching his fingers toward his shifted son.

Ash braked, scared that he was going to get hit, but instead, Evan gently caressed the snake's little flat head, scratching his chin slightly when the snake didn't move away. Ash narrowed his eyes into slits at the wonderful feeling, the tip of his tail wagging.

Hearing the deep chuckle coming from above him, Ash froze, his eyes widening as he realized how he had reacted. If he was in his human form, he would have blushed from embarrassment from the tip of his hair to the end of his legs. Lucky him, he was still a snake.

Ash rubbed himself against Evan's hand and focused on healing him, letting the giant pet him however he wanted.

"Thank you, Ash." Evan thanked the snake once his injuries were all healed, taking the snake into his hand, startling him, and putting him on Adam's stomach. The shifter, finding himself exhausted from all the slithering around and the healing, rolled himself into a little ball, with his head on top, and proceeded to fall asleep like that, his breath matching the sleeping Adam's.

Evan watched his two people sleeping with soft eyes, before glancing up at the still waiting Rick.

"Blaze?" The giant inquired coldly, secretly hoping that the fox had succeeded in his trial without getting injured. Rick nearly rolled his eyes at the giant's act of casualness, as if talking about the weather. It was too late to act like that.

"He's perfectly fine, didn't even struggle in his trial. He's already at the village getting pampered while waiting for you all." The scout answered with an amused grin, remembering the report he had received about the old ladies stuffing the child until his stomach was round and ready to explode from all the treats.

"Good." Evan grunted, getting up while holding Adam in a princess carry. The giant turned toward Rick and nodded without a word, clearly expecting the scout to lead them back to the village. Rick chuckled as he shook his head in amusement, but he still started to lead the way.

This family was quite cute and funny.

The way back to the village was silent and peaceful, not a single animal was encountered, and Evan took care to not disturb the sleeping Adam and Ash. The giant walked slowly and carefully in between the rocks and roots to avoid shaking the sleepyheads in his arms, glaring at the scout, daring him to say a single word, when he turned back to speak.

Rick went a little farther ahead to warn their escorts, sending two people before them to the village to warn the other tribe's members not to make a single sound when they would reach the village. While people who completed the trial would normally be welcomed with fanfares and the like, Evan would surely murder them all if they dared to wake up his treasures.

Thus, they returned to a silent home, people cheering for them silently, making clapping motions without truly clapping. Of course, Adam and Ash missed all that, but Evan took note of it and would tell them once they woke up.

The members made way for Evan with a big smile on their face, waving at him once he was standing before their tent. Just before heading inside, Evan stopped, making everyone puzzled. The giant turned back and nodded in thanks, shocking the spectators with his unusual behavior, and then hurried inside, closing the tent's entrance.

What was even more shocking to the witnesses, was the pink blush on the giant's ears as he turned his back to them.

No one would believe them.

Hey dear readers, Evan is shy, he's not used to being treated in a good way apart from his lover and kids!
