Warning : Gore and swearing
"H-how dare you!? Guards! Guards!!!" The Duke screamed, refusing to look at his wife's severed head now lying on the ground at his feet. Adam quackled at the panicked look on his old man's face, enjoying the commotion he had caused.
"I'm sorry, Father, but no one will be coming to help you. How do you think we reached this room?" The warrior teased, rocking his chair slightly. He felt so excited and feverish, like electricity was coursing through his veins. His dream was becoming true.
"What do you want, Adam? Money? A name? Tell me and I will give it to you." The Duke finally said between gritted teeth, looking as if he had swallowed expired food. From the corner of his eye, Adam saw his older brother creeping out of his chair and toward him, his hand at his hips hidden underneath the table but probably holding a sword. Without waiting anymore, Adam stuck out his spear and pierced his older brother in the middle of the forehead, effectively killing him. Screams erupted once again as he retracted his weapon, letting the corpse fall to the ground with a thud.
As he saw his other brothers and sisters start to get up and run like headless chickens toward the door, Adam stood up from his chair and jumped on the table, easily skirting around the plates like a cat. With a speed one wouldn't expect from a hunk of a warrior covered in muscles, Adam reached the escaping sheep and slayed them all one by one, his expression gleeful as he watched his siblings look around in horror, not knowing which one of them would be the next to die.
Once the priceless carpet was covered in blood and every one of them was dead, the warrior stretched his arms above his head and exhaled, as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. Adam turned back and saw Evan holding the Duke by the neck, keeping him in place with his head turned toward the massacre so that the bald man had a premium seat for the macabre show. Adam nodded his thanks at his giant before turning to face his old man.
"Hey, I think you are wrong about me, old man. I don't give a sparkling fuck about money and status. All I wanted was for you to love me, but it's too late. I found my own family to love and who loves me back, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. I'm happy now. I only came back here to do what I should have done long ago : take my revenge." And then, with one swift move, before the Duke could utter a single word, his head went flying, splashing blood everywhere. It ended up rolling on the floor before colliding with his wife's head, staying there.
Adam took a deep breath, then another.
It was done.
Evan bypassed the heads and bodies and came to a stop before his lover, holding out his arms. With a wobbly smile and teary eyes, Adam accepted the offer, burrowing his face into his partner's hairy chest.
He needed a moment.
A moment to accept what he had just done. A moment to accept that it was finished. A moment to accept his new reality. A moment to accept that he was truly free.
The warrior chuckled as he felt a fury body brush against his legs, gently nuzzling at his kneecap. A cold nose also pressed against his cheek, a soft hissing sound soothing his feverish nerves.
He couldn't have asked for a better family.
Once Adam felt fine, they all headed out of the mansion and toward the palace that could be seen in the distance. There were no ceremonies, no trials and there would be no funerals. Cleaners would come later after the war to collect all the dead bodies and as for those who were their foes, they would throw them all into a pit and burn it all. For their allies who gave their lives, there would be a farewell ceremony and they would be treated with respect.
The Salovski family of course didn't fall into the last category.
The streets were deserted, everyone having headed to safety while the revolution took place. The homeless and slaves had been taken care of in the night by Leo's men, freed and guided to safety. Screams could be heard coming from the other nobles' mansion, but they were often cut short by metallic sounds. With his quick thinking and all his preparations, Leo had ensured that the revolution had as little impact as it could have on the innocent. No homes were set on fire, no innocent lives were taken, no roads were destroyed. It was a peaceful revolution, contrary to those in the past.
They reached the palace after an unknown amount of time, the sky still bright and the sun shining down on them. They chose not to attack at night. No, they wanted to be seen, to terrorize their opponents. They wanted everyone to know that even on a plain day, without hiding, they could take them down.
As the quartet entered, they saw corpses after corpses on the floor. The good people, like innocent guards and servants, had already been taken to security early in the morning by Leopold's men. They walked among the bodies, Adam whistling as he saw the atrocious death some people had experienced. He couldn't say who had killed who, as he couldn't feel dark mana as well as a mage, but the still bodies half engulfed by shadows kind of gave it away. For the others, he didn't know.
Adam couldn't tell which one Leopold had taken care of either. In fact, he didn't know how the prince fought. The warrior could just tell instinctively that he was strong, very strong, and not to be messed with.
They navigated the palace in silence, sometimes snorting when they saw a weird portrait or an exaggerated sculpture of a noble. Everything in the palace screamed excessive spending and all of them fell out of place. It confirmed that once everything was over, they would return to their normal nomad life and go on adventures.
Finally, they reached the center of the palace and stopped before huge emerald doors, intricate symbols carved in the expensive material. Leo had told them that it was the treasury and also where they had hidden the portal to the hole.
Without waiting any further, Adam pushed open the heavy doors, revealing the scene behind them.
