Warning : violence and gore

When Adam blinked again, he saw that he was standing in his old residence, the small abandoned pavilion still covered in dust and mold.

"Dad, is that your old home?" Blaze asked as he bounced around, frightening a pair of frogs into hiding back in their puddle. The fox shifter crouched beside the puddle, gently poking the water.

"Well, you could say that this is my old house, it was never my home. Blaze, sweetie, don't scare the frogs please." The warrior said as he took mercy on the hiding amphibians. The fox pouted but still relented, coming back to his parents.

Evan glanced at Blaze before looking at Ash who was hiding behind him, holding into his leg while nervously glancing around.

"I-it's... charming? Q-quiet..." Ash tried to compliment the pavilion, feeling bad for his Dad. Adam chuckled at his son's attempt at comforting him and Evan ruffled the snake shifter's hair in a gentle caress, making Ash beam up at his Papa.

"Don't worry, Ash, I hate this place. Now, let's get my revenge." Adam reassured Ash and the two kids cheered at his last sentence, while Evan made a sort of snort-growl that probably meant 'fucking finally'.

Blaze shifted into his fox's form, preferring to fight like that, while Ash shifted into a silver noodle. Evan took hold of the snake and wrapped him around his neck in a sort of cold necklace. They had found that it was easier to fight this way while Ash could stay close to heal them.

Evan then put on his fighting gloves, the same ones that Adam had gifted him all those years ago. They were used, and holes had formed in the fabric after all the battles, but Adam had awkwardly sewn them shut. The warrior, embarrassed with the gloves' state, had tried to convince the giant to throw them into the trash, or at least stop using them, but his bear had firmly refused. He liked fighting with those gloves full of memories, it was as if Adam was holding his fist into his rough hands and caressing his skin with his calluses as he fought for his family.

Adam shook his head as he saw the worn out gloves, swearing that he was going to give another pair to his bear once the war was over.

The warrior took hold of his spear attached to his back and swung it out of its cover, gently swinging it into infinite symbols as he warmed up his muscle memory. They were all ready to fight.

It took them a few minutes to reach the central mansion, and they had yet to see anyone. Not even servants went into the far away pavilion. It only proved to Evan that he was right in thinking that they all deserved to die. Just imagining what his lover must have gone through as a kid made his hackles raise.

"What-" They heard someone start to say, but Blaze was already chomping the man's neck. The fox fell down on his paws, blood dripping down his jaw as the body followed him to the ground. Adam stepped closer and recognized a butler that had made his distaste clear with him in the past.

"Good job, Blaze." The warrior praised as he took on the chunk of skin missing from the dead man's neck, blood pissing everywhere. It was as if the peaceful spell had been broken. Shortly after this first death, more servants and butlers showed up, all slain by Adam and Blaze before Evan even had the time to punch them.

The guards came after, seemingly alerted by the screams coming from the hallways where Adam was cutting off heads after heads with his spear while Blaze spit out fireballs that caught into the servants' clothes and instantly burnt the humans to death. Leopold had sworn to them that all of them were guilty of some crimes and shared his father's views, so they made no effort to hold back.

Once the more experienced fighters came, Evan grinned, pleased to finally be able to let out some tension. The giant punched the nearest guard, the man's head rolling back with a sickening crunch and his body tumbling to the ground. It made the bear stop in surprise, not expecting such little resistance from the human's body. They were more used to fighting monsters than humans, after all. He glanced back at the guards surrounding them, said guards flinching as they met his gaze.

Not one prone to mercy, Evan smirked and charged toward them anyways, sending guards after guards flying around, dead with only one blow. Adam whistled at the show as he continued to thrust his spear into the incoming foes, only one quick move of his arm making the weapon pierce his attacker's heart or head, moving like an eel in its natural habitat.

Blaze jumped ahead of the group, faster on his four paws. He cleared the incoming hallways with his fire, burning all the guards. Those who escaped his flames were taken down by his fangs and claws without any real chance at getting away.

All the while, Ash dozed off peacefully, his little head resting on Evan's shoulder. It was clear that his help wasn't needed, his family didn't even sustain any cut while fighting. They were just too strong.

It was a one-sided massacre.

Suddenly, Adam grunted as chains wrapped around his body, restricting his limbs and torso. The chains had come from underneath him and as he glanced down, he saw that a magic circle had appeared. He tugged at them, but they didn't even bulge under the strain, unlike his skin who broke into places because of the friction.

From what Leopold had told them, the mages were all gathered in the palace and Kaleb would take care of them, so it only left one option.

Artifacts.

"Dad!" Blaze hurried back when he saw his dad chained and quickly took out the soldiers that had come closer once they saw the opportunity. Ash also raised his head, smelling his dad's blood. Evan glanced at his lover, anxious, but the warrior turned back and shook his head, signaling that he would manage. The bear grunted and continued to punch his way through the guards.

"Someone inexperienced must have triggered the artifact. It's supposed to capture all foe, but only caught me. It's a high level artifact, I won't be able to escape it by myself. Blaze, you need to find it and shove the person who activated it off from it. I will manage here while waiting." Adam explained to the fox, moving his arms slightly and rotating his wrists until he was holding his spear with two hands, the weapon parallel to the ground. It made him bleed some more, but it was better than being actually injured by an attacker.

Recognizing one of his dad's defense poses, Blaze knew that the warrior would manage without him. He yipped to show his understanding before hurrying toward the end of the hallway.

He needed to free his dad!
