"Are you sure you want to continue? You don't need to..." Adam asked the giant as he saw the toll it was taking on his man to tell his story. Evan gave him a wry smile, shaking his head to tell him he, in fact, needed to. It would explain why he would react in a certain way when seeing his family, and why they would act in a weird way too.

"As I was saying, my mom left me, and once she did, I became the one being abused. My father never felt love for me, he always resented me because I was smaller than the other children. I don't know what he expected when he mated with a human and got a giant half bred, but it wasn't for me to be smaller than real giants." Evan took a deep breath in and a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips when he saw the shocked look on his comrades' face, probably for being told he was small. He did have a reputation for being tall everywhere he went.

"However, it wasn't all that bad as the other villagers, my real family, were kind and loved me. They wanted to help me, to make my father stop his cruel acts in the name of education, but he was too strong, they didn't stand a chance against him. I never resented them, I know what my father was like when angered. And boy would it anger him if someone argued with him... Anyways, my father trained me like crazy, but he wasn't alone, I also had a master in fighting. She treated me well and was my refuge when things would get worse." Evan grimaced at the last sentence and everyone in the room could feel that this supposed master wasn't all that great finally.

"I always vowed to take revenge for my mother and me by defeating my father. I dreamt of my success for years, wishing to grow strong enough to never let anyone I like get injured." Evan caressed Adam's face as he muttered the words, making the warrior smile fondly at his bear.

"However, life is cruel. I was nothing but a young boy when my father died, of a disease above all. He got a cold one winter, it got progressively worse and he simply passed away like that. I perceived it like a betrayal, as if he had left me behind too, just like my mother. I couldn't take in the fact that this man, this strong man that I feared and that had become part of my goal in life, had simply died of a disease. He went to hell in his sleep, without even suffering." Adam held Evan's clenched fist in his hand, massaging the knuckles cracking against the strain. Adam understood the frustration, he also wanted to defeat his father, and just imagining the day coming only for his old man to die peacefully, he would be mad with anger. He wasn't even abused by his father's own hands, so it must have felt much worse for his lover.

"Anyways, the villagers were happy with the news, as it meant that I wouldn't suffer anymore. They felt guilty for not protecting me and my mom, and probably still do, but I just wanted to turn a new leaf. However, we didn't even have time to spend a day together before my master, who I trusted, drugged me in my sleep and sold me to slave traders who were in the region just for the night. The next day, I was shipped off to a faraway land and my family didn't have time to rescue me. I heard my master talking with the slave trader while I was semi-conscious. All those years, she had taken care of me just to get closer to my father, as she loved him. Now that he was gone, I was a burden, but at least a burden that could get her a few gold coins if sold. Then my life as a slave started and you can imagine the rest." Evan concluded, rubbing the back of his head in a somewhat bashful way, as if embarrassed that they had learnt of his past. It was, after all, as if he had barren himself before them, letting them see his imperfections and fears.

"So, my family is made of giants, and good fighters at that, so I think they will be a good help. I'm not sure that they will help, I don't even know if they remember me as it has been years, but I think it's worth giving it a shot. Maybe one of them will remember me, still feel guilty about what happened and want to help me. If it helps you, then I don't mind going to find them." Evan explained further his plan, and everyone agreed that if it didn't bother him, it would be a great help.

"So, what do we do now? It will take a while to reach Evan's village, do we go our separate ways?" Adam asked to start the planification. It wasn't ideal to be separated for so long, but they couldn't help it.

"Oh, no need for that. I can use dark magic to travel in the shadows. Evan just needs to think of where he wants to go while holding my hands and I will take you there." Kaleb explained with a grin, glad that he could help. When he was being chased by assassins, he had been poisoned by the inn owner where he had been sleeping, so he couldn't use his magic. Now, he finally had the chance to show off his skills and not be a burden.

"That's... useful." Adam answered for lack of better words. He was impressed by the wide range of Kaleb's abilities. Kaleb only grinned in answer, showing off his pointy canines.

"Ok, let's get ready to meet them and then we will leave." Evan agreed, hugging Adam and placing his chin on his lover's shoulder. He rubbed his face against the warm skin as Kaleb made an ok gesture and stumbled to the little bathroom.

"If you don't mind, Evan, I would like to give a gift to your family as your in-law. Would it be fine with you?" Athena asked with furrowed eyebrows, wondering if it would seem rude. The Aleksy's tribe was a tribe that liked to give gifts, but she knew that it wasn't a custom in all cultures.

"It's fine, grandma, I don't mind." Evan answered while looking at the old lady with fond eyes. All those years spent in her company had softened his heart toward her and the other members of the tribe too.

He considered them like his second family.

Hey dear readers, they are getting ready to meet Evan's family!
