Warning : violence and gore
Adam jumped from branches to branches, avoiding the whips made from wind coming his way. The trees cracked and split in half where the whips collided, making the warrior grateful for avoiding the attack.
It had taken him a while to find the wind lizard, the humanoid monsters hiding away from prying eyes. He had found a small village near a swamp, and had managed to lure away a small group of warriors while they were patrolling.
Now, he was being chased by five really angry lizard men.
The quest had been to hunt three wind lizards, but he didn't have much choice as those monsters hunted in groups of five. Adam hoped the extra preys would give him more merits. That is, if he could land a blow.
All he had been doing for now was running away, trying to avoid the wind attack as much as he could. He had to grit his teeth and endure as cuts formed on his body, the lizard much faster than he had expected. At least, they didn't appear to have been drugged like other monsters they had met, or he would probably be already dead.
Still, their use of wind to be nimbler and faster was problematic.
Adam swore as his thigh was slashed by a wind blade, blood seeping from the wound and making the lizard even more excited. Knowing that he couldn't run much farther anyways, the warrior turned back, taking hold of his spear.
The lizards continued to throw wind attacks as they came closer, snickering toward him as thought they had already won.
Adam put his hands on each side of his spear, before spinning it around, making the wind attack disperse. Abigail hadn't taught him that, nor had he used this technique before. However, he just instinctively felt that he could use his spear in a more creative way than just piercing and swinging it around.
The monsters faltered, not expecting their attacks to be stopped so abruptly.
Adam took this opportunity to sprint toward the closest one, making a piercing motion toward the lizard's belly. Before it could puncture the skin, his spear was deflected by a rusty sword. His balance was nearly thrown off, but months of training taught him better.
His back foot took anchor in the ground before using the shock from the rebound to spin around, landing a jumping roundhouse kick on the unsuspecting lizard that had attacked him. The monster grew seemingly dizzy from the attack, his body swaying as he shook his head.
Of course, Adam didn't let him recover.
In one swift motion, his spear impaled the lizard, making the monster cry out in pain. Adam didn't have time to celebrate his first successful prey as he felt someone suddenly try to attack him from behind. Blood flew everywhere as the warrior took out his spear from his victim's body, the beast tumbling to the ground like a stringless puppet. In one swift motion, Adam dropped to the ground on one foot, his other making a perfect half circle and sweeping the feet of his attacker before he could come closer, his spear anchored in the ground to keep his balance.
The lizard fell, but as Adam was going to pierce his head from underneath, he felt another attack coming, forcing him to roll away. He shook the dizziness from his head as he took on a fighting stance.
Adam warily stared at the two lizard men circling around him, the other helping the fallen one get up.
The warrior took this moment to throw continuous attacks at the monsters, piercing, swiping, piercing, swiping, piercing, swiping, without any rest. The two lizards started to get dizzy from the rain of attacks, using their wind abilities to swiftly evade the spear, only to evade the shadow of say spear, the weapon already waiting for them on their other side. It wasn't helping them that Adam was continuously switching between his victim, making the lizards fumble into each other a few times.
Of course, this tactic had its limits.
Adam was tiring fast, sweat dripping down his face, sliding along his neck and into the hem of his shirt. His breath was coming out in short puffs and his vision was burning, his muscles protesting loudly. Still, he couldn't stop.
He was starting to see the benefits from his efforts, the lizards slowly losing their quickness, getting injured more easily, their eyes panicked.
Just a little more, just a little more...
As Adam raised his spear to deal a deadly blow on the weaker lizard, an heavy object collided into his side, cutting his breath and sending his body rolling on the floor before finishing with his back slamming into a tree. Stars shone in his darkened vision as the warrior tried to come back to his senses.
The other two lizards.
He had been too absorbed into dealing quickly with two lizards only and had gotten too arrogant, forgetting the other two.
Adam coughed as he tried to find his breathing back, his vision still not fully returned. However, with what little he could see, he could definitely sight the lizard men coming closer to him, caressing their weapons and looking at him with sneers on their scaly faces.
The warrior scrambled to get up, his knees weak and his side badly aching.
He had surely broken a rib or two.
Adam grimaced as he saw his spear laying on the ground beside the lizards, too far from him. He could barely hear the lizards' growls with how loud his heart was beating in his ears, his temples throbbing like crazy.
He couldn't be brought down from so little. He wouldn't die because of four lizards. It wouldn't make sense, after everything he had been through. All the abuse he endured, the revenge he vowed, the family he formed. He wouldn't fucking die in the middle of an unknown forest by the hands of scaly monsters without any feelings!
He had people waiting for him.
He had to survive.
