The next morning, the small group of leaders stood before what could be said to be the most surprising army in the history of war. At the front stood the Aleksy's warrior, dressed in rough leather and animals' pelt and holding crude weapons, but nonetheless dangerous. Anyone stupid enough to underestimate those nomads because of their appearances would be in for a rough awakening.
A little further away stood Leopold's men, all dressed in black and wearing hoods over their faces. Their bodies couldn't be seen, men and women probably mixed in the lot, and their weapons were hidden under their capes. Not even the sound of their breathing could be heard, making the warrior around them slightly anxious as they threw wary glances at the shadows.
Then, in the back, the giants towered above the humans, looking fresh and as ferocious as yesterday.
The army took much place, easily covering a good portion of the forest they were hiding in.
Kaleb had placed small rocks with runes all around the group, supposedly so that it could make sound and would repeat everything the leaders said so even the giants far away could hear. Leopold had scowled at the mage when he saw the runes in the morning while Kaleb sported new dark circles around his eyes, and had grumbled about punishment before turning away to face the growing crowd.
If Kaleb's help wasn't needed, Adam had no doubt that the prince would have ordered the mage to sleep for the next two days, if not three. And if his orders had been met with resistance, he would have knocked out the exhausted raccoon himself.
Leopold looked around, noting that everyone seemed present, before glancing at the rest of the leaders. Once they all signaled their acceptance with a nod, the prince stepped forward, effectively silencing the small talks going around.
"I will make this short, as we are in a race against time. Thank you all brave warriors for showing up for your people, for your country. We will eradicate the corrupted nobles, rupture the link with the invading world and establish a democratic government. Your willingness to help will forever be remembered." Leo declared, taking on his noble identity with grace as he spoke with a leadership that one can only be born with. The crowd roared at his word, waving their weapons in the air while making sure not to hurt their surrounding comrades. Once the warriors settled down again, their eyes shining with rage and their bloodlust heavy in the air, Leo explained his plan.
The army would separate in groups, small ones going after the nobles scattered around the city and a big one invading the palace. Each group would be composed of Aleksy's warriors, Leo's shadows and giants, to balance their strength and weakness. The prince's informants assured that all the nobles were in the city, having sought refuge from the monsters, and that the others who weren't in his father's palm were already dead. No one would be spared.
Adam and Evan would of course attack his father's estate and spare no one, be it the servants or his family. Adam knew that every one of them deserved death, there were no innocents sadly. They would go alone with their children, Ash and Blaze having come back from their little adventure in the wild in the early morning. The two kids had jumped in their fathers' arms with much energy, glad that they had come back alive and unharmed.
The little quartet would be enough to win.
Leopold and Kaleb would attack the palace at the same time, with the majority of the army. Abigail, Erwin, Sylvie et Lev would join them there. Abigail had been training a small group of adventurers ready to help, and Erwin had collected many weapons and bombs in his shop to help the revolution. Sylvie and Lev were both good adventurers who could be of great help for scouting with their elf's magic.
Once the small groups were done with their respective tasks, they would meet at the palace to help with the final battle.
The plan was simple, and it needed to be with how urgent things were. They lacked the time to elaborate a fastidious scheme, and Leo was convinced that an easy plan was all they needed against the nobles. He had, of course, a few backup plans, but those weren't divulgated.
Once the prince finished explaining, the army separated in groups as told.
As soon as everyone was standing in their spot, Kaleb walked forward. The mage took out some strange potions from his bag and gulped them down, nearly gagging because of the taste. Those were mana replenishing potions, made so that he would be able to cast spells for the duration of the war. Those potions were tricky, because after their effects were over, Kaleb would fall into a coma and be vulnerable for a whole week. As such, he rarely used them.
Now, however, was a perfect time for them.
Shadows raised around the mage, twirling around his limbs and inking into his skin, forming intricate tattoos. The lines raised from his toes all the way to the top of his head, covering his eyes in lines. Kaleb opened his eyelids only to reveal all the white of his eyes gone, replaced by black smoke, and the color gone from his iris too. A few gasps and gulps were heard from the army, but they quickly composed themselves as Leo glared at them.
Kaleb opened his mouth and a strange melody started to come out of it, the words stumbling out of his lips in a hurry, an ancient language that no one had ever heard echoing in the forest. Adam saw the prince slightly adjust his pants from the corner of his eye as Leo stared at the mage with burning eyes. The warrior shivered with disgust before stepping closer to his bear.
The prince was much weirder than he had thought.
It wasn't long before shadows erupted around the small groups, forming magic circles. Adam recognized the same patterns as those that had appeared when Kaleb had teleported them before, with only a few changes.
With one final shout, the circles closed around the groups and darkness surrounded them.
Hey dear readers, they have a simple plan because this small author is war-dumb. Thank you for your comprehension.
