They spent a peaceful breakfast in bed, the little family having waited for Adam to wake up before eating. They needed all the energy they could get from the food with the rite happening today.

"I want you boys to be cautious, don't take on more than you can handle. Joining the tribe would be nice, but it isn't more important than your life or wellbeing." Adam told the three boys of his life, taking on a serious expression. Evan couldn't hold back a chuckle, making the warrior glare at him.

"You think I'm not serious?" The shorter man asked, feeling mildly offended by his lover's reaction. He had hoped for his support to convince the shifters not to get hurt, but here he was, laughing at him for no reason.

"Sorry, I couldn't help myself with this on your face." Evan explained as he swiped his thumb across Adam's lips, revealing that he had gotten some cream on his face while eating. The warrior blushed a deep red, much too embarrassed about the misunderstanding.

"Your dad is right, though. The forest is dangerous, we don't want you to get hurt, alright?" Seeing his hedgehog with his thorns all stretched out, Evan decided to help his partner get his point across. The giant took Adam in his arms, sitting beside him in bed and holding him close. Adam looked up at him, smiling as Evan's eyes met his, before resting his head on the slave's shoulder.

The couple looked at their children, happy to see the little shifters with their heads bobbing up and down.

Safety couldn't be guaranteed, but it wouldn't hurt to make sure that the kids were aware of what they were getting themselves into. Adam also hoped that, if the hidden supervisors saw the kids in difficulty and ready to give up, they would help them avoid any injuries and bring them back to the tribe.

Once they had finished eating, Evan, already dressed, shooed the kids back to their tent, telling them to get ready to head out.

The warrior grimaced as he got dressed, the strain on his back and legs not to be underestimated. He put on baggy black and dark green pants to avoid friction on his sore behind, adding a black shirt stretching over all his upper body, hiding the hickeys and bite marks. He completed the look with high boots and a belt, along with the strap for his spear.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have been so harsh yesterday with the rite today." Evan came behind him, putting his hands on his lover's sore hips, gently massaging the area. Adam sighed at the feeling, resting his back and his weight on his partner's chest. He put his hands on Evan's, tracing the scars and bumps on them. It was something that he found calming.

"It's fine, I enjoyed it too. It had been too long with the children around. I will manage, and you, mister, should be cautious too. I wasn't just talking to the children earlier." The warrior answered, bending his neck to look up at Evan who crouched down to look into his eyes.

"Mmm." The giant agreed, pecking Adam in between his eyebrows. The warrior closed his eyes in delight at the small gestures that Evan often did to please him. The slave was nothing more than a huge teddy bear to him, a plush hiding a lustful and possessive wolf for sure, but a plush nonetheless.

A wolf's howl was heard all over the village, followed by two shorter ones, and the young couple remembered the instructions given yesterday at supper. Rick had informed them that three howls would signal the start of the rite. Once it had started, they would need to head separately in the forest and return in two days.

The lovers shared one last mushy kiss before heading out of the tent, joining the two shifters waiting for them. Both boys were bouncing around, looking more than ready to complete the rite. Blaze would mostly fight in his fox's form, but he was still given a little dagger, while Ash was holding a book given to him by Athena at the supper and was already looking through it.

"Hurry, hurry!" Seeing their parents coming out, Blaze urged them, taking their hands and tugging toward the forest. Adam and Evan chuckled at the fox's impatience, his temperament just as fiery as his fur.

"Good morning, I hope you are well rested! From now on, you need to go in four separate directions, you can choose where to start from." Rick greeted them as he approached, surrounded by three other scouts. They would survey them for the beginning to make sure that they were all going alone. The little family nodded, having already discussed where they would each be going yesterday.

Adam squeezed Evan's hand before letting it slip away, the giant winking at the warrior to try and sooth him. The slave could feel the anxiety that his master felt at the thought of leaving him and the children, but they needed to do it. Be it for joining the tribe, but also to be more independent. They couldn't always rely on each other like they had been doing since now.

The wink helped calm Adam down, and the warrior walked in his direction. As he passed through the village, he could feel the not so nice gazes burning into his back. He knew that they had been mostly lucky yesterday to meet only nice tribe's members, and he even had his suspicions about whether Rick and Athena had a role in that outcome. They had, after all, been warned not to wander in the village, but the supper had gone well.

Now, however, he could feel the hostility. It was mostly coming from a few tribe members though. The others were cheering for him and his family, small children waving as he passed by them, their parents cheering for him, throwing their weapons toward the sky to pass energy to him.

Adam waved back at the children and nodded in thanks at the adults.

It was time to prove that he was, no, that they were capable.

Hey dear readers, the rite is starting!
