Behind the doors was Leo holding a curled up Kaleb on his lap as he sat on a magnificent chair. The prince looked over as they entered and nodded at them, his elegant fingers not even stopping as he continued to stroke the mage's fluffy dark hair. Hearing them coming over, Kaleb tiredly lifted his head and blinked slowly, looking dazed.
"What happened?" Adam demanded, questioning his sanity for letting Kaleb stay alone with the wolf in sheep's clothing. Leo only rolled his eyes at the implication, nodding toward a mirror in a corner. The outside of the mirror was surrounded by black dust, as if corroding. Inside, instead of reflecting what was in front of it, the mirror showed a dark hole in what seemed to be an iceberg. The hole had lines of purples and green swirling around in it, but nothing could be seen apart from that, no monsters nor demons.
"He tried to close the hole, but he spent all his mana and nothing happened apart from the black corrosion you can see around the mirror. The magic is much stronger than we thought." Leopold explained as he gently pecked Kaleb's forehead. The mage made a little sound of happiness before nuzzling against the prince's throat. For Kaleb to waste all his mana even with the magical potions' help, it was quite a dire situation. They didn't have any stronger mages in their camp, and they doubt there even was a mage stronger than Kaleb. The puppy was impressive.
"So, what do we do now?" Adam frowned at the prince, knowing that it was probably rude of him to talk like that to royalty, but he couldn't care less. They had taken down the nobles and the royalty. From what he had seen on his way here, the King and his other children were all dead. They had everything they wanted, but the hole was still open, meaning there would still be mana in this world and it would probably continue to be a matter of strong people ruling and weak ones obeying. It wasn't what they had planned.
"Well, we would need someone with an extreme amount of mana, maybe a half-divine creature, to be able to close it. I can assure you that I am as displeased as you with this outcome... I need to think a little more." Leo appeared tired, making Adam feel bad. The prince had planned this revolution for years now, nearly all his life was spent for this moment. Facing such a huge stepback probably hurt his ego a lot.
"Erm... I think I could be of some help?" A tiny voice was heard and they all looked down at Adam's feet, where Blaze sat in his fox's form. The fox blinked at the sudden spotlight projected on him, and his tail switched nervously behind him.
"What do you mean, Blaze?" Adam asked his son, crouching so that he was at eyes-level with him. The fox pawed at his nose and Adam recognized the move as one of embarrassment, making him even more confused.
"Well... I'm not exactly a normal fox shifter. My parents were nine-tailed foxes, divine ones, so I'm half-divine. Of course, I'm the runt of the litter, so my powers are really weak, which is why I appear as a normal fox. However, if I consume a good amount of mana stone, preferably fire ones, I can temporarily evolve to my divine form and use my powers to close the hole. Well, I think." Blaze hurried to say, before looking at the floor. Adam and Evan blinked at the revelation, not having expected their son to hide such information about himself. Still, it did explain why Blaze was so strong and unfazed most of the time, contrary to a normal fox shifter. Now, though, he looked like a young fidgety kit afraid of his parents' reaction after lying.
"Wow, that's awesome, Blaze." Adam said as he gently petted the fox, making sure to scratch the fox behind his big fluffy ears just like how Blaze liked it.
"You... You are not mad at me?" The fox whispered, hanging his head low as he didn't dare look up, afraid to see disappointment in his dad's eyes. He had hidden the truth from his dads at the beginning because he didn't trust them yet. Then, when they had made their ways into his heart, he chose to keep it a secret a little longer so that they would continue to treat him like a normal shifter. After all those years, he had wanted to tell them the truth, but he had been scared of their reaction once they learnt that he had kept it hidden for so long, so it was only now that he said it.
"No, never. We love you all the same, Blaze. We are a family, nothing will ever change that." The warrior comforted his child, gently taking the fur ball into his muscled arms and pecking his pointy nose. The fox giggled at the ticklish feeling and looked up into his dad's eyes, seeing nothing but love. Blaze glanced at Ash and Evan and saw the same feelings, making big fat tears roll down his furry cheeks.
"T-thank you..." The fox cried out, sobbing loudly as he burrowed his face into Adam's neck. The warrior chuckled gently and petted his son, slightly swaying his body left to right like one would do with their crying child, because that was what Blaze was, their child, and nothing would ever change that.
Evan glanced away from his lover and kid to watch Leopold's reaction, but contrary to the annoyance he expected to show on the prince's face, the man looked at them with longing, before turning back to nuzzle at Kaleb's body.
The giant may need to change his first impression of the haughty prince.
Once Blaze calmed down and stopped soaking Adam's shirt with his tears, the warrior let him down and turned to face Leo.
"So, now all we need is fire mana stone. Do you have some?" Adam asked the prince, his muscle ticking in his jaw as he saw the hand that Leo had slipped under the mage's shirt, fondling his bare skin at his hip.
He held himself back from making a comment, knowing that even if Kaleb wasn't currently in a good headspace to consent, the mage would have been thrilled with the touch.
"Of course. Blaze, is it? You can go around the corner over there, there is a chest full of mana stone, feel free to eat as much as you want. Anyways, they will be useless once you close the hole." The prince ignored Adam's angry face and nodded at said corner, hugging Kaleb even closer, as if afraid that someone would steal him away.
Blaze trotted toward the chest mentioned and they all heard him start to munch away at the stones.
