"So, when did you start thinking about it?" Adam asked Evan as they headed back to their inn, holding hands and walking close to each other. Evan looked down at his lover, his eyes growing fond as he took on Adam's small wrinkles and his face that had now lost all its baby fat.
"A long time ago... Do you remember when you gave me gloves as a gift? It was then. I told myself that I wanted to marry you. I went to look for rings that day, but none fitted me, and I didn't have any money to have custom-made ones. I didn't want normal ones too, I wanted it to be special, you deserve only the best. I also wanted the proposal to be perfect, in a beautiful place. Everywhere we went, I tried to find a palace that just screamed proposal material, but where we could be alone. In all those years, I never found one that checked all the cases, but once we came here, I just knew. The fountain back there, it was there that I found solace from my father, where I could be in peace. I wanted to share this place that is special for me with you, and make it special for you too. I hope it fits what you had in mind for a proposal, we never talked about it." Evan explained and Adam could see the hidden nervousness in his lover as the half-giant tried to find if it had been enough to please him.
The warrior laughed at his partner's silliness, before standing on his tip-toe to peck his lips.
"It was perfect, Bear, truly. I never thought about what I wanted, you know our people are not fond of same-sex couples, so I never really thought about proposal and marriage as it is uncommon. I thought we would stay as a couple forever. Now that you proposed, can I expect a wedding?" Adam teased Evan, not really expecting a positive answer, only to be surprised when Evan smirked and nodded.
"I already checked with Dalia, and our wedding is actually planned for tonight in the village's temple." Evan said and Adam smacked him behind the head.
"No way! Evan! I need to get ready, and find clothes to wear! Oh my gods, this is so last minute, I don't know what to prepare! Don't get me wrong, I'm over the moon, but my gods!" Adam panicked as he tried to think of what to prepare for a wedding.
"Don't worry, Pet. It will only be a small private wedding with us, Kaleb, Dalia, Ben and the priest. I had planned for your grandmother and the children to join us, but seeing Kaleb's current state, it won't happen. Everything is already prepared, our custom-made clothes should be waiting in our room by now, I got them made when you had your measurements taken for the armor. It's only a wedding in name to finally have our union recognized before the gods, and then when the revolution is over, we can have a bigger wedding with all our friends, if you want." Evan chuckled as he explained. For him, they could have had a wedding with just both of them and the priest, as long as they were officially blessed by the gods, it was enough. However, he didn't know if Adam wanted a big one. He knew his lover didn't like people, but maybe he had a certain image of how a wedding should be in his mind and would like for theirs to fit it. He would respect his choice.
"Oh, no! I much prefer the idea of a small wedding, this is perfect. It's only a formality to be recognized by the gods. I don't need all the others to see our union. Thank you, Evan. You really know me well." Adam sighed in relief, happy that it would be a small ceremony. He didn't want to make something big out of it. He knew Athena wouldn't be sad for missing her grandson's wedding, as the tribe was more into open relationships and rarely married, they didn't give importance to such ceremonies.
Adam also thought about Ash and Blaze, but he knew their children didn't like standing still in a boring ceremony. For them, they were already a married couple. They would probably ask why such formalities were necessary, to which even Adam didn't have the answer.
The couple reached their inn in a happy silence, each in their own bubble of happiness. The passersby looked at the glowing lovers with fondness, glad to see two men with such a precious bond.
They entered the inn and directly went to check on Kaleb. The guards at the door nodded at them before letting the couple pass. Once inside the room, Adam had to take a double check at what he was seeing. Kaleb was sitting on a giant stranger's lap, being hand fed some porridge while happily singing.
The stranger looked at them briefly before resuming his task, leaving Adam and Evan with gaping mouths.
"Oh, hi! You guys are finally back! I was wondering what was taking you so- OH MY GOD! Is that a wedding ring!? Did you guys get married without my consent!? I'm so shocked, I think I will faint..." Kaleb exclaimed as his eyes zoomed on their matching ring, mimicking a fainting spell at the end. Adam and Evan chuckled at their friend's antics, glad to see his dramatic self back. It was much better than his haggard self. Even if he did irritate them sometimes with how extra he was, they were fond of Kaleb.
"I didn't know I needed your consent to marry my husband." Evan said, holding Adam possessively to his chest. Kaleb only swooned at the answer, fanning himself with his hand as he blushed.
"No excitement." The stranger grunted as he took out a small hand fan and started cooling down Kaleb's face. The dark mage smiled at the man sweetly, batting his eyelashes like a damsel in love, to which the giant only grunted.
"I love when a strong man takes care of me, wanna be my daddy?" The puppy asked, holding his hands together in a silent prayer. The giant only answered by raising his hand, showing off his wedding ring.
Kaleb grumbled about how the best ones were always already taken, before turning back to the couple.
Hey dear readers, Kaleb is such a puppy XD
