A few years had gone by in the blink of an eye.
Evan and Adam spent the majority of their time training with the tribe, learning new techniques, but also teaching others their own tricks. Adam also tried to teach magic, as he was the only one able to wield it, but they quickly discovered that others weren't able to do what he could do. It seemed like his father's bloodline had awakened a potential in him that the tribe's members didn't have. Still, the warrior got plenty of suggestions by his new family about different uses of his magic.
The two lovers developed new techniques, while not forgetting to hone those they already had.
In the few years that had passed, they had both completed various trials, individually and together, which had awarded them with many beautiful tribal tattoos on their bodies, which they wore with pride. Their room had also gotten a new lookover with all the fur amassed and bones.
The two men still loved each other just the same, which surprised the tribe's members who were more versatile with their partners and often engaged in polygamy. There had been a few tries from women and men to join the couple, but Evan and Adam had made it clear that they wouldn't allow anyone to touch what was theirs. The two men were possessive and obsessed with their lover, not wanting to share in the slightest. Their faces and bodies had matured, taking a more wild look from living in the forest and following the tribe in their nomadic activities. Their muscles were sharper, cut with a knife, and their aura was imposing. Their abilities, strength, agility and stamina had greatly improved.
They had also made good use of the soundproof room plenty of time to have private time away from the kids and test their stamina.
Said kids had integrated well in the tribe, also doing a few trials of their own or following their dads in a few of theirs.
Blaze was flamboyant now, bold and confident, while not prideful nor egocentric. He was friends with everyone in the tribe, helping the elderly, going scouting with scouts and using his fox form to help them in any ways he could. He had challenged himself in plenty of fights, wishing to get stronger, and he had succeeded. The young boy now looked like a ten years old with a lean body and soft muscles, far from his dads' but still healthy. He had already broken many hearts around the tribe's children, as he rejected every confession. And Gods, did he get confessions. His charming youthful look with bright orange eyes, dark red hair turning black at the tips, fluffy ears and tail, and pale complexion were a big trend in the village among the children.
Evan and Adam couldn't believe their child had already grown so much, but seeing his cheeks still full of baby fat, it made them feel less sad. They were proud of him.
However, the one that had truly impressed them was Ash.
His sudden transformations had taken a while to settle down, and the snake had been afraid of being judged at first. However, all the villagers had fallen in love with the cute noodle. Every time they would see him, they would give him things, praise him or pet him. His friend, Riz, another snake shifter, had been more than happy to spend moments in his shifter form with Ash, showing him tricks and cuddling together.
Because of all this love, Ash was no longer afraid to shift in his snake form now.
He had also grown more confident and had passed a few challenges too, mostly in healing and herbs. The kid looked like he was eight mentally, but hadn't grown much in the past years. The healers of the tribe had said that it was due to the many years of malnutrition and abuse, and that he would probably always be on the smaller size from his pairs.
Adam and Evan had been heartbroken and outraged when they heard that, but Ash had quickly calmed them down, saying that he didn't mind because he now had a happy family. The two parents also comforted themselves by thinking that their little snake would be their little baby longer than Blaze who had a sudden growth spurt.
It may, however, have made their overprotectiveness of Ash much stronger than it already was.
Riz, who was only a few years older than Ash, was also much taller than him, which had made the black snake worried for his friend's health at first. Adam explained the situation to him and if look could kill, Riz would be a serial killer by now. The black snake had also grown overprotective and possessive of his little friend, much to Adam and Evan's amusement.
Despite all the love and cheers he received, Ash still kept a quiet and timid personality, completely contrary to Blaze's outgoing personality, which worried his caretaker. Still, they understood with time that it was just how he was from the start, and Ash was comfortable with it, so they didn't try to change him, it was just part of him and they accepted it.
It didn't keep Ash from making friends too, apart from Riz, and the young snake was now comfortable with taking the initiative to speak or ask for something, which made his parents so proud.
All in all, life was good, peaceful, and they had become a part of the Aleksy's tribe, which was why they should have seen it coming, but it still caught them off guard when it happened.
A ghost from their past showed up at the tribe's territory's edges, covered in wounds and rags.
Had it been any other scouts, they would have left the man there to die. Even though the tribe had become more slack with the rules because of Adam's family, they were still too wary of strangers. However, the man was quite lucky as Evan found him first.
The giant stopped abruptly in his tracks as he stared at the man on the ground, his brows scrunched as he tried to remember where he had seen him.
Then, a memory emerged, overlapping a young dark mage's face with the one a few years older laying on the ground before him. He recognized him from the horror-like inn they had first stayed in, where they had also met Abigail. They had received an invitation from a dark mage who gave them the powder to dissolve his slave tattoo, with much dramatic antics.
His name was Kaleb.
