Once Blaze's belly was round with mana stones and not even a single speck of dust could be seen in the chest, the fox made his way toward them with wobbly paws, looking like he was having an overdose of mana stones. Still, he succeeded in reaching the space before the mirror, letting out a huff as he looked at the hole.
"So... How do I close it? I won't be able to maintain my divine form for long, so I need to know now." Blaze explained as he tilted his head toward Leopold. His big fluffy ears twitched with the move and Adam had to hold back his itchy paws from ruffing them. Even the prince's face seemed to soften before the child's cuteness, making Evan and Adam puff out their chest like proud parents.
"Well, from my research, you only need to infuse as much mana as you can toward it. The hole will try to absorb it. Once it's too full, it will experience a feeling of rejection toward our world and close itself to escape it. That's the simple way of saying it. Kaleb's attempt failed because the hole didn't feel full enough." The prince answered, pecking the mage's head when he said the word 'failed'. Kaleb visibly winced at the word, but Leo's act of kindness soothed him.
"Ok, I will try..." Blaze said as he stuck out his tongue in concentration, glaring at the hole with as much hate as a fluffy ball of sweetness could muster. Adam had to cough to hide his chuckle at the way the fox's fur all stood up on edge, just like a porcupine.
Even though the warrior didn't have a high level of mana understanding, which meant he had more difficulty seeing the mana around him, he was still able to see it swirl around the fox as time passed, which meant that it was truly a huge amount of mana. Blaze grunted as the air swirled around him faster and faster, his fur slowly changing to white from close to his body to the tip of it. Red marking appeared on Blaze's face, and if Adam forced his eyes, he could see eight semi-transparent fluffy tails behind his son's back.
They all matched in fascination as the normal fox became a nine-tail fox before their eyes.
Once the changes appeared completed, they saw the mana swirling around focusing on the mirror instead, angry rafales colliding into the mirror and being absorbed by the hole. It was an intriguing process. The previous lines of color in the hole slowly disappeared, replaced by a soul-crushing black. It gave shivers to those who looked at it for too long.
Blaze gasped and sweated as he continued to glare at the hole, his white fur slowly becoming red again, but at a much slower rate than his initial transformation. Adam concluded that once the fox was back at his normal appearance, it meant that he had exhausted all his mana.
The hole was still not completely black, but Blaze already looked exhausted, which made Adam's heart break at his son's despairing eyes.
Just as he was about to say something, Evan bypassed him, coming to a stop beside Blaze. The fox only glanced at him quickly from the corner of his eye before focusing back on his task.
"You can do it, little kit. You make us so proud. We know you can do it." The giant praised his child, which was rare for him to do. Praises were more Adam's things. Blaze's eyes widened and then sharpened, and with a loud shout, a huge raffle of wind slammed into the mirror, creating small fractures. Just as they started to worry, the hole became all black and promptly shut, leaving only a normal iceberg standing in the mirror.
They didn't have time to think before the mirror shattered in a million pieces, the small parts so small it could be mistaken for snowflakes glistening on the ground.
Adam gasped as Blaze fell to the ground, his body having returned to normal. The warrior hurried to gather his son in his arms, but before he could worry, the fox looked up at him with tired but sparkling eyes, a foxy grin stretching his nuzzle.
"I did it, Dad, Father, Ash..." The fox mumbled, his tone sleepy. Ash's soft body slipped from around Adam's neck and curled around the fox's one, softly hissing his praises and nuzzling the fiery fur.
"You sure did, Sweetie, we are so proud of you." Adam said, trying to choke down the tears threatening to spill from his eyes. It wasn't like Blaze was dying, but seeing his son accomplish such a feat made him feel all kinds of wobbly inside, good kinds of wobbly. Evan put his hand on his lover's shoulder and gently squeezed it, knowing what the warrior was feeling. While he was less in tune with his emotions than Adam, the giant still felt a tender pressure behind his eyes.
"We never doubted you, Son." Evan added, and Adam cooed as big happy tears fell down from Blaze's eyes, his own tears following soon after. The little family enjoyed their bonding time, celebrating the closing of the hole, the end of an era, but mostly just Blaze's achievement that spoke volumes of the little fox's courage and determination.
Not wanting to disturb the parents and children, Leopold stood up and carried Kaleb toward the opening between the doors. He had assisted at the closing of the hole, his goal finally reached after all those years. The prince hoped that it would bring a more peaceful era to the world.
Already, he could feel the flow of mana thinning around him. It was a tiny change, but with time, as the source of the mana had disappeared, it would slowly stretch out until nothing was left.
Leopold reached the throne's room, where a giant bowl of water was placed in the center. It was used to convey messages all around the Kingdom, and to other Kingdoms as well if he wanted to.
The prince sat on the throne, before changing his mind. He stood up again and with a flick of his wrist, the throne went flying and shattered upon contact with the closest wall. One of his shadow guards understood his silent request and brought him a normal chair, without any jewels of fancy carving.
A commoner chair, to send a message that he hoped would be clear and appease the masses.
