"Oh, Kanha! Nishita Beta, you're a vision of loveliness!" Yashoda exclaimed, her voice laced with love. She swiped a tiny bit of kajal from her right eye and carefully dotted it on Nishita's nape as if the tiny black speck could fend off any malevolent spirits. "Hey Prabhu, it's going to be a strenuous task keeping all the evil eyes away from my stunning bahu," she fretted, her anxiety palpable as she fussed over Nishita's appearance, ensuring every detail was perfect to ward off any bad luck.

Nishita felt a wave of shyness wash over her as she cast her eyes downward, cheeks turning a shade of rosy pink when everyone chuckled at Mrs. Singh's obvious exaggeration. It was a sweet lie, no doubt. That morning, she'd seen herself in the mirror and thought she looked nice enough, but not the jaw-dropping beauty that Mrs. Singh seemed to be praising. Devika, on the other hand, was turning heads left and right with her effortlessly chic desi look—who could have imagined that the girl who usually rocked a tomboy look could morph into a traditional goddess overnight?

She marveled at the transformation, feeling like an awkward duckling next to Devika's swan-like grace.

Despite wanting to join in the laughter, Nishita could only muster a coy smile. "Oh, stop lying, Maa ji," she mumbled, caught between the urge to say more and the fear of sparking unnecessary drama.

Her Mami had practically pleaded with her to stay quiet for at least a week, until all the rituals were completed and she left for Jagdish's home in Mumbai, to preserve the family's pristine reputation. Supriya Mami and her melodramatic antics!

Nishita could almost hear her now: 'Please, beta, not a peep until everything is said and done!' Her Mami's over-the-top expressions and earnest pleas from the corner of the room made her want to roll her eyes but she knew better than to risk stirring the pot any further.

"Why would I lie?" Mrs. Singh replied, eyes twinkling. "My son is incredibly lucky to have you. When I first managed to convince you to meet him, I was a bundle of nerves, worrying if you two would see the magic in each other. But oh, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Jagdish would actually crack a genuine, happy smile!"

"Smile?" Nishita echoed in shock, biting the inside of her lip.

"Yes, smile!" Mrs. Singh exclaimed, "My son has always been... different. He's never been one to express his desires openly. I still remember the day he told me he wanted to pursue law. Even then, he was ready to set aside his dreams for the family's sake." Mrs. Singh's voice softened. "He's always been so mature, my Jagdish. From a young age, he's put everyone else's needs before his own. It's like he was born with an old soul, always thinking about others and never about himself."

Nishita blinked, processing this new insight into Jagdish's complex character.

"He's been so quiet all his life, but the day he met you, I saw a genuine smile on his lips," Mrs. Singh continued, her eyes growing misty with emotion. "It was only the second time I'd seen my Sher that happy—the first was when he had won his first case." She gently patted Nishita's head, a tender gesture filled with affection.

"Jagdish is not one to wear his heart on his sleeve," she went on. "I've never seen him laugh with abandon, cry out in pain, or let loose with anger. He's always been a calm sea, keeping his feelings tightly bottled up. But with you, Nishita, there's something different. You bring out a side of him I hardly ever see. It's like you've unlocked a door to his heart that no one else could open."

Nishita reached out to hold Mrs. Singh's hand, trying to offer comfort.

"Unlike Krishna or Subhadra, Jagdish tends to shut himself off, making it difficult for anyone to reach him," Mrs. Singh said, blinking away her tears. "As his mother, I've tried every trick in the book to understand him and help him open up, but it always felt like trying to solve a riddle wrapped in an enigma."

"But then, seeing him with you brought me the greatest joy. It was like witnessing a miracle. I could see he had finally found someone he trusted enough to share his true emotions with, someone who could crack that tough exterior and reach the gentle soul inside." Mrs. Singh's eyes sparkled with gratitude as she looked at Nishita, feeling a wave of warmth wash over her. "You've done what I never could, and for that, I'll always be thankful."

"Hmm..." Nishita hummed, trying not to let panic take over. She wasn't sure she was ready for a man who hid his feelings even from his own mother. The anxiety bubbled up inside her, threatening to spill over.

"Nishi Beta..." Mrs. Singh cupped her cheek gently, her voice soft and pleading. "Promise me, you'll be there for my Sher, always..."

Nishita's heart raced, the weight of this new promise feeling both heavy and unavoidable. She had always joked about finding ways to uncover the mysteries of Jagdish, but learning about his ironclad control over his emotions sent a wave of uncertainty crashing over her. Suddenly, everything she had confidently accepted about her life and her new role seemed up in the air.

Shit was surely hitting the roof.

Her mind buzzed with questions and doubts. Could she truly reach him? Could she break through those walls he had built so meticulously? The more she thought about it, the more anxious she became. It felt like she was standing at the edge of a vast, uncharted territory, unsure of what lay ahead but knowing there was no turning back.

"Nishi?"

Staring straight into Mrs. Singh's eyes, she nodded slowly, hoping she could rise to the challenge ahead.

The challenge was called: Jadish Veer Singh.

A/N

The more Nishita learns about Jagdish, the stronger her urge to run away grows. XD

The next song in the playlist is "Navrai Maajhi"

If I had written Krishna and Samiksha's wedding scenes, I am sure this would have been the first song in the list that Mukesh and Alisha danced for her. Maybe, I can write a few bonus chapters, who knows XD
