"And here goes the ring..." Gayatri announced, dropping the ring into the pot of milk and stirring it thoroughly. "Come on, let's see who finds it first!" she encouraged, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she looked at the couple. The guests leaned in, eager to watch the playful competition unfold.
Nishita stared at Jagdish, who was blushing furiously as everyone teased him about not losing the ring to her, warning that otherwise, he'd have to live a life as 'Biwi ka Ghulaam'—a servant to his wife. The crowd's support heavily leaned towards Jagdish, with only Prasanna and Devika cheering for Nishita. Her competitive streak, however, relished every opportunity to win.
Without hesitation, she dove into the game, her hands searching the milky depths for the ring. Jagdish, meanwhile, seemed to hesitate far more than necessary, his cheeks turning a deep shade of pink. Nishita rolled her eyes.
Honestly, Jagdish, could you blush anymore?
Devika leaned in, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Nishu, there's Jagdish's hand," she said, pointing discreetly towards his hand. It darted around erratically, like a swimmer lost in a maze, nowhere near Nishita's hand on the opposite side. "See if you can nudge yours closer and maybe brush your fingers together." A knowing smile played on Devika's lips.
Nishita couldn't help but let out a playful snort. "Why do you want me to embarrass him in front of everyone?" her smile widening as she felt something grazing her palm, metal for sure. "Look at him—he's not even looking at me, acting like a blushing bride."
"Embarrass?" Devika whispered back. "It's called flirting. The game isn't about finding the ring; it's about touching each other's hand and feeling comfortable with it."
"Oh really?" Nishita caught the ring in her hand but didn't pull it out. "And what if he bursts into a cherry-red blush?"
Devika winked. "So what? When else can you get a chance to playfully flirt with your husband with the entire room watching?"
Nishita, a playful glint in her eyes, bit her lip to contain a smile. Slowly, she inched her hand across the ceramic pot toward Jagdish. The ring, hidden beneath her palm, felt warm against her skin. Just as her fingers neared the edge where she might graze his, Jagdish seemed to sense her presence. His hand, which had been circling a small section with determined focus, jerked away suddenly. He redirected his search to another corner of the pot—the very one Nishita had already thoroughly explored moments before.
"Seriously!" Nishita silently gasped, shocked at Jagdish's quick retreat.
Determined, Nishita moved her hand back, her fingers grazing his inside the milk pot. The moment their skin touched, Jagdish's head snapped up, his eyes locking onto hers with an intensity that took her breath away. His brown eyes sparkled like sunlight dancing on mountain peaks, captivating her completely. In that instant, her world came to a standstill, every background noise fading into oblivion.
At that moment, Jagdish's gaze seemed to tell a different story, a narrative woven with unspoken words and deep emotions. His eyes were like windows to his soul, brimming with desire and longing as if they were waiting to pour out and kiss her with the sheer force of their intensity. She could feel the depth of his feelings, the way he saw beyond her exterior, touching the very essence of her being.
Her fingers found his pinky, and she felt a surge of electricity pass between them. It was as if the simple touch had ignited a spark, a connection that neither could ignore. Jagdish's lips parted slightly, his breath catching in his throat as he looked at her with a mix of passion and yearning.
Nishita swallowed a big lump in her throat, she felt her heart racing wildly with just a simple touch. What was with Jagdish's eyes that made her feel so... so crazy?
The atmosphere between them thickened, charged with an almost palpable tension. Nishita could see the desire brewing in his eyes, a longing that mirrored her own. It was a look that spoke of more than just physical attraction. She saw a different kind of hunger, the one which wasn't about her skin touching his, it was her owning his soul, him claiming hers. So many words in the world, yet he chose silence to whisper such passion to her.
In that moment, everything else faded away. The teasing of the crowd, and the playful competition, all became background noise to the powerful connection they shared.
"Arey, ye dono toh Akhilesh Bhaiyya aur Shailaja Bhabhi se bhi jyada deewane nikle!" someone shouted loudly, referring to Jagdish's second uncle's romantic antics, and the crowd burst into laughter. "Look, they are holding each other's hand rather than finding the ring!"
Breaking away from their trance, Nishita slyly pushed the ring under Jagdish's hand. He glanced at her, a soft smile playing on his lips, and she returned it coyly.
"Here it is," he declared, lifting his hand out of the pot with the ring clutched between his fingers. The room erupted in cheers and applause, the noise almost deafening. "But I can't take full credit for this victory..." he paused dramatically, then gently pulled Nishita's hand from the pot. His cheeks still glowing deep crimson as he held her hand firmly in his own. "She passed it to me. And I am more than happy to live a life as a 'Ghulaam' to my wife."
Oh god, no!
Nishita couldn't stop herself from bowing her head and shaking it in disbelief as Jagdish slipped the ring onto her finger while Singhs and Trivedis whistled as if it were some stupid Bollywood romantic scene.
Stupid, stupid Jagdish!

There might be some confusion with the introduction of new characters in the last two or three chapters. To help with this, I've updated the character list at the beginning. You can check it out to get acquainted with Trivedis, who I've decided to introduce now as I've started developing Veer-Yashoda's separate short story (Title: Pretty And The Powerful, do check out my profile for more details.) They won't play a significant role in this book, so I haven't added their pictures. Additionally, I've removed a few AI-generated images of characters who no longer have a major role in the plot.
I now have a clear vision of how the story will unfold. I've gathered all the plot points and even have the final chapter scene ready in my mind. However, it's still quite a way off, so you'll need to read along slowly to reach that point.
I just hope it doesn't go beyond chapter 150, exceeding 'Not A Simple Engineer Boy!'. But the way I have so many things to write, I think it might exceed XD
I wrote this chapter with only one intention, to add "Ek Dil Hai, Ek Jaan Hai" to Jagdish's love. That's all! XD
