"The fuck you did in Mumbai?" Devika snarled as she kicked the door behind to shut and faced Nishita. "You went and met Kant? You asked him to rent his flat to me?"

"And he agreed." Nishita finished, giving her a glass of water.

Devika swatted her hand away. "Why would you do that!?"

"I thought he would also make a fuss like you, but he didn't mind much." Nishita, the award-winning actress she was, fanned herself as she kept looking at the old ceiling fan in her room, "Rather, he was only worried about his image living with a girl as his parents are searching a bride for him."

Nishita noticed anger bubbling inside Devika and poured a teaspoon of ghee to infuriate her further. "Don't fret. You'll surely find a nicer apartment soon, without needing to disrupt his enthusiastic pursuit of finding a wife for himself."

"If you are so keen, why don't you go and make a Shadi.com profile for him!?" Devika snapped, "Bloody hell, he wants a wife now!?"

"Are you annoyed?" Nishita asked, her voice sounding innocent as she hid her smirk, "But Viki, think about it. He's older than Jagdish and I think it's the right time for him to get married, in a couple of years he'll be thirty and you know how brutal marriage mart can get."

"He's eight and twenty now!" Devika mumbled. "Probably, he just wants a woman to warm his bed!"

"Now, in that case, he might resort to something else, not marriage." Nishita chuckled, sipping her cold Pepsi. "Also, he appeared way calm and collected. I have seen awesome Disney's transformation in their movies but Chandrakant's transformation beats that, he did look like husband material."

Devika was rendered speechless; words failed her completely. From the very beginning, Chandrakant had shown himself to be a husband material—steady, reliable, and loving. She was the one who had driven him to the brink of madness with her denial. That night had been as wild as it could have gotten, and while she had given herself to him utterly, he had taken everything without any guilt. It seemed that once he had gotten his fill, any love he once felt for her had evaporated.

The sting of his silence was unbearable. For fuck's sake, he hadn't even bothered to reach out to see if she was okay after the intensity of that night. Physically, she had been in extreme pain, though she couldn't entirely blame him for that. She had begged for his passion, pleaded for every ounce of his desire, and he had given it to her. But emotionally, she was left in ruins. She had expected him to call, to check on her well-being, to provide the comfort and affection she so desperately needed from him. She had wanted him to reach out, to envelop her in his arms, to kiss her with the same tenderness that his eyes had promised during all those longing encounters and comfort her with his sweet voice.

Instead, there was nothing but a deafening silence from his end. His lack of response shook her to her very core. She had thought he was different, that he was special, that he loved her. But his inaction spoke volumes. He was just like all the other men she had been with—men who took what they wanted and left without a second thought. The realization was devastating. Chandrakant, the man she had believed to be the beautiful soul, was no different from the rest. He had failed her, leaving her to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart all by herself.

"Whatever," she mumbled, turning away quickly to hide the tears welling up in her eyes. "I'd be more than happy to leave his apartment. I don't want to be a fucking leech in his life."

"Viki..." Nishita said gently, stepping aside as she moved to lean against the door. "I really hope you can sort things out with him before he decides to move on and marry someone else." She paused, her voice softening even further. "You both deserve a chance to make things right."

Devika couldn't contain her emotions any longer and broke down, her sobs racking her body. Nishita immediately pulled her into a comforting hug, offering the solace that only a true friend could provide. She didn't need to pry into the details of what had happened between Devika and Chandrakant; the flood of tears was evidence enough of the turmoil in Devika's heart. Despite her constant facade of indifference, it was painfully clear how deeply she cared for Chandrakant.

Nishita understood that Devika's heart was ensnared in a complex web of stubborn pride and unspoken love. Devika had always prided herself on being fiercely independent, resolute in her belief that she didn't need anyone to complete her, least of all a man. This stubbornness, a shield she had crafted over the years, was both her strength and her downfall. It protected her from vulnerability and the risk of getting hurt, but it also kept her from acknowledging her true feelings.

Nishita could see the internal battle waging within her friend. Devika's pride wouldn't let her admit that she needed Chandrakant, that she yearned for his affection and validation. She had built such high walls around her heart that even she struggled to scale them. But Nishita knew that the key to Devika's healing lay in breaking down those barriers, in letting herself be vulnerable and accepting that it was okay to need someone.

As she held Devika, Nishita whispered comforting words, hoping to ease her friend's pain. She wished she could do more, wished she could somehow make Devika see that admitting her love for Chandrakant wasn't a weakness but a strength. That letting go of her stubborn pride could lead to the happiness she so desperately sought.

In her heart, Devika had undeniably fallen for Chandrakant, and Nishita had always sensed their deep connection. It wasn't just Devika; Chandrakant's feelings were equally evident. Nishita had seen the way he looked at Devika, the tenderness and concern in his eyes. She had witnessed the emotions he tried to conceal, especially the tears he fought to hold back during their trip to Goa.

Nishita wasn't blind to the depth of his feelings, nor to the subtle signs of his affection. That was why she had orchestrated her little plan to have them live together for a while. She believed that by being in close proximity, they would inevitably confront their true feelings. Nishita knew that their love was powerful enough to break through the barriers they had built around themselves. She hoped that living together would force them to face their emotions, allowing their passion to finally surface and bring them closer than ever before.
