"Yeah," Krishna continued, tapping Nishita's bangles thoughtfully. "Bhaiyya isn't much of a talker in general. The only ones he really opens up to are Maa and Kant Bhaiyya." He paused, his expression growing more serious. "With Maa, it's like he has this deep, unspoken bond. But with the rest of us, especially Papa, it's different. Conversations are brief, almost superficial as if there's always this invisible barrier."
"Hmm..."
He picked up one of her bangles, carefully sliding it onto his pinky finger with a grin. "You seem different in this setting."
"In what setting?" Nishita asked, amusement dancing in her eyes as she watched Krishna's naughty antics with her jewelry.
"This whole traditional setup," Krishna elaborated, gently placing the bangle back on her wrist. He looked at her thoughtfully. "The Nishita I know is usually more outspoken, confident, always ready with a witty remark or a bold opinion. Here, surrounded by all this tradition and ceremony, you seem more reserved, almost subdued. It's like you're holding back a part of yourself except for the time when you lashed out at all my uncles."
"I can't be outspoken everywhere," Nishita replied. "Unlike you, I'm not born a Singh or a man. It'll be reckless."
"You don't need to be either to walk over to your husband and strike up a conversation while savoring some delicious ice cream," Krishna teased, a playful grin spreading across his face as he noticed her slightly flustered expression.
Nishita cleared her throat, trying to mask her embarrassment. "What do you mean?"
Krishna's grin widened. "You've been staring at Bhaiyya for quite a while now," he pointed out matter-of-factly. "Yet here you are, pouting instead of going over and talking to him. And let's not forget how you've been eyeing that ice cream cup my cousins are devouring. It's like you're torturing yourself by keeping your distance from both!"
"Oh, Kanha! Why the fuck are you studying me?" Nishita asked, embarrassed.
Krishna chuckled. "I have the best job—no job at all," he quipped. "I don't enjoy mingling with relatives, old or new—they bore me to death," he added, smiling. "Unlike Bhaiyya, who has to play the dutiful son, I have the freedom to be myself and ignore these gatherings."
Nishita shot him a glare. "You talk about your brother as if being caring and polite is a burden for him," she remarked, pursing her lips. "Maybe he just prefers it that way."
Krishna shrugged, fiddling with another bangle. "Maybe," he muttered. "But honestly, that sounds like a tiresome way to live. Always smiling, always engaging in stupid small talk with relatives about the weather or their latest ailments—ugh. I mean, it's great that he's so dedicated, but I'd rather be myself and steer clear of all that." He sighed and looked at Jagdish. "No offense, but nodding politely at random Mamajis, whom I have never seen my whole fucking life, is not my idea of fun." He rolled his eyes and stared at Nishita who's face held a smirk.
"Well, he doesn't have complicated love affairs like you," Nishita teased, grinning as Krishna gritted his teeth. "So, he has enough bandwidth to take care of his family and friends."
"So you got that bit from Mohini, huh?" Krishna retorted with annoyance, crossing his arms. "Good thing I didn't give her the full story—you can't trust anyone these days."
"I don't need the details," Nishita replied grinning wide as she pinched his arm. "Just tell me the name of my future Devrani."
Krishna blushed furiously, waving his hand dismissively. "Oh, shut up!" he exclaimed, trying to hide his embarrassment behind a grin. "You're not getting anything out of me!"
"Aha, so there is something to spill!" Nishita leaned in closer. "Is she your classmate?"
"Seriously, Nishita!" Krishna groaned, pushing her gently away. "You're way too nosy. If I hang around you too much, you'll make me spill all my secrets."
"Secrets, Devarji?" she teased, inspecting her nails with a smug expression. "They can't hide from me."
He huffed. "You're fucking impossible!"
"Be respectful, Devarji." she taunted. "I might be the one to help you out in your love life, who knows."
"Ugh, whatever!"

A/N
Well, well, well, the bonding between Nishita and Krishna is just too sweet for words. I couldn't stop smiling while writing this chapter. The way Krishna playfully fiddles with her bangles like a kid is just adorable. I can totally picture him being just as silly with his future wife XD
He's such a cutie pie in my world of romantic stories. Out of all my male leads, he's definitely the cutest—although he's got some serious competition from a future character named Bhrigudev. But I'll save the details of that story for another time—it's still a long way from being drafted. Hehe.
"Ve Kamleya" for your Krishna and his 'complicated' love story ;)
