Outraged, Chandrakant snatched a pen from the desk and launched it at Unni, narrowly missing his head. "She's a kid, for fuck's sake!"

Jagdish slammed his hands down on his desk. "Enough! You two are supposed to be professionals, not a couple of schoolyard brawlers. What are you guys? Ten?" His face distorted in disgust when Unni showed him the middle finger and mouthed 'one.'

Prasanna sighed. "Well, jokes aside," she leaned forward with a playful glint in her eyes, "I can't help but notice a certain someone getting a lot of starry-eyed glances lately." She nudged Chandrakant with her elbow and gestured towards the door. "Seems like someone's got a secret admirer, dreaming of perhaps becoming Mrs. Sahu and turning this whole place into 'Sahu and Associates'."

"What the fuck are you guys high on?" Chandrakant snapped. "Seriously, stop it. She's just twenty-one or twenty-two."

"Haan, almost equivalent to your roommate..." Unni snickered when Chandrakant shot him a fiery look. "Oh... Not a roommate... just a flatmate. Didn't she turn twenty-three recently?"

"Yeah and, Kant, your mother told me that you are rejecting all the proposals they are sending your way." Prasanna smiled slyly, "Aren't you interested in being an obedient son? What happened to your act of respecting your parents' wishes?"

"I thought we were here to celebrate Jagdish's epic win against Hari Kashyap's case," Chandrakant interjected, his face turning a shade of crimson as he tried to divert the topic. "Not to dive into my personal life."

Unni clicked his tongue, muttering, "Ah, personal life."

Chandrakant pressed his head.

"That sounds like an intriguing case, Jaggy," Prasanna remarked, shifting the issue. "Winning something like that would have been quite the accomplishment." A hint of teasing crept into her voice. "Mr. Gaikwad must be composing songs in your honor after that stellar performance, wouldn't you agree?"

Jagdish's jaw clenched. "He got what he deserved in the end," he muttered, his voice laced with anger. "Preying on those less fortunate..."

"High-profile cases, national coverage—you're making a real name for yourself, Jaggy." Unni placed a hand on his shoulder. "Dashing outside, ruthless attorney inside—quite the act you've got there!"

"Jaggy has always had a certain charisma, wouldn't you say?" Chandrakant winked at Jagdish. "It's no surprise his wife fell for him so quickly."

"Yep!" Prasanna chirped.

Jagdish pinched the bridge of his nose, his voice tight with annoyance. "Look, I need to see Mr. Gaikwad first. Then I'll be happy to deal with your fucking rubbish." With a dismissive glance at Chandrakant, he pushed back his chair and strode off while Prasanna whistled at him.

--

Leaning back in his chair, Mr. Gaikwad, his glasses perched high on his head and his greying hair gleaming in the light, squinted at Jagdish. "What do you think?"

"Partner? Don't you think it's too early, sir?"

"Talent transcends age, Jagdish," Mr. Gaikwad countered. "You and Chandrakant have consistently been the stars of this firm. This is the least I can offer you both."

"Chandrakant too?" Jagdish's eyebrows shot up in surprise.

Mr. Gaikwad chuckled. "Not just yet. There's a case he's working on that I'm particularly interested in. Perhaps after that's concluded." He paused, a hint of pride in his voice. "You achieved something I set as a benchmark for you, Jagdish. And I must say this, I'm truly impressed."

"Hmm..."

"So?"

Jagdish hesitated, a crease appearing between his brows. "I appreciate the offer, sir, but I'll need some time to think it through. I'm not entirely convinced it's the right step for me."

"Of course," Mr. Gaikwad reassured him with a chuckle. "Absolutely no pressure, Jagdish. Take your time. The senior position is always open to you. In the meantime, you could train my daughter. I have put her under Chandrakant's wing for now."

"Certainly, sir." Jagdish's face relaxed into a smile.

His phone buzzed, and a message from Nishita popped up: 'I want to take a break. How about going to the beach?' His smile widened further.

As Jagdish turned to leave with a brief nod, Mr. Gaikwad held up a hand, halting him in his tracks. "Jagdish," he paused for a while before adding. "It seems like it's been a while since you've had a break. Didn't you have to forgo your honeymoon because of this case?"

Jagdish stammered, "Err... Sir..."

Mr. Gaikwad's booming laughter filled the room. "Come on, my boy! Take Nishita on a trip! Bali, Maldives, somewhere exotic! I'm too old to keep track of all the fancy places you youngsters like these days." He winked.

"Sir, she is in the middle of studying for her CA-CPT exams," Jagdish mumbled, his face still burning.

"Ah, of course, of course!" Mr. Gaikwad exclaimed, snapping his fingers. "You mentioned that, didn't you? Well, tell her good luck from me!"

Jagdish muttered a barely audible, "Okay, sir."

Chuckling again, Mr. Gaikwad opened the file in front of him. "Look at you, turning red just at the mention of her name!" He shook his head and wore his glasses. "Now, shoo!"

"Okay, sir."

Did someone notice Unni asking about Kant's roommate? Oh, I mean flatmate XD

And I like Mr. Gaikwad. Seems like a cute uncle.
