"This lehenga is drop-dead gorgeous, isn't it?" Devika chirped, holding up a heavily embroidered cream lehenga against Nishita's standing pose. She grinned mischievously at her friend. "You'd look like an absolute queen—no, scratch that, a total goddess in this!"
Nishita's family had dragged her to Delhi for the ultimate wedding shopping spree, and Devika just couldn't resist being the enthusiastic plus one. She was determined to help her friend find the perfect outfit, while Nishita kept giving side-eye to the outrageous price tags. The sheer extravagance of it all made Nishita's head spin.
"I don't like it," Nishita said, frowning. "I want something simple and elegant. This is too flashy for my taste. I would rather wear it at your wedding since you prefer being the flashiest of all."
Devika pursed her lips in playful annoyance. Sure, the dresses were priced like they were sewn with gold thread, but come on, this was a wedding! If a girl can't be showered with luxury and treated like royalty on her wedding day, then when can she? Feminism aside, what's wrong with dreaming of looking like a goddess on your special day? Simplicity might have its moments, but not at an Indian wedding. These celebrations are all about dazzling opulence. Everyone pulls out all the stops to look their finest, and as the bride, Nishita had the divine right to outshine them all.
Nishita scanned the collection of lehengas, her eyes finally landing on a beautiful pastel blue piece, delicately embroidered with pearls. It was like love at first sight; this dress outshone everything else she had seen. She tried it on, and it felt like it was made just for her. Her grin widened as she admired how perfectly it matched her complexion. It wasn't cumbersome; in fact, it was the most comfortable dress she had tried on all day. She knew she'd be getting something more extravagant for the wedding ceremony from Singh's family, so for the reception, this delicate, breezy dress was perfect.
Devika couldn't argue with the bride's choice. After all, it was Nishita's big day, and she had to feel like a million bucks. Devika watched as Nishita twirled in front of the mirror, the pastel blue lehenga flowing effortlessly around her. It was whimsical, it was elegant, and most importantly, it was Nishita, her darling best friend.
"I love this, I want this." Nishita declared with an exuberant flair, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Her parents and Devika caught up in her infectious enthusiasm, nodded along.

"I went to meet Krishna," Mohini disclosed to Nishita, prompting Devika to raise a curious brow.
Nishita turned to her cousin with intrigue. "Why?" she inquired.
Mohini shrugged nonchalantly. "Nothing much. We're in Delhi, he lives here, so I thought I'd pay a visit to him. He had asked to visit whenever possible," she explained, trying to downplay her visit, though the subtle blush on her dusky cheeks betrayed her true feelings for Krishna.
Devika straightened up, delighted. "Well, I live just down the street from Nishu's, but I've never had the pleasure of your company at my place, Mohi... What has Krishna done to be graced by your presence?" she teased.
Mohini swallowed nervously, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Oh, stop teasing me," she protested. "He's probably in love with someone else anyway. He mentioned something about 'it' being complicated."
Nishita and Devika exchanged knowing looks, teasingly prodding Mohini for more details. Nishita mocked, "Oh, so he's confiding in you now? What's the point of me being his future sister-in-law if I'm the last one to know about his love life?"
"Nishi Di, please, I don't know much," Mohini protested. "He just mentioned it casually when I remarked on how lucky he is to be away from home. Unlike me, who has to overthink every conversation with any guy... Or even a girl sometimes, because my Maa somehow believes in homosexuality as well."
Devika chuckled, "You could have gone to some college far away from home to study a simple plain degree and escaped from the clutches of your mother, but you were too stubborn about pursuing this silly medical dream, and now you're stuck here. It's all about choices."
Nishita clicked her tongue. "Yeah, it's all about choices, like Viki choosing to work in Mumbai instead of settling for a boring job in Pune," she observed, eyeing Devika knowingly before turning to Mohini. "Mohi, it's all about what you want out of life."
Devika bit her lip nervously. "Why are you picking on me? Do you think I'm deliberately avoiding jobs in Pune?"
"No," Nishita replied calmly. "I'm not picking on you; I'm just acknowledging that you're more excited about pursuing a design job in Mumbai than settling for a teaching job in Pune."

A/N
Sorry for the abrupt ending, but the chapter was getting too long. As always, I like to keep my promise of delivering daily updates with short chapters, so here's the first half. Plus, the mood of the latter part didn't quite fit the chapter title, so I had to adjust it to stay true to the theme.
"Pallo Latke" is one of my all-time favorite remixes. It's the perfect anthem for Nishita's excitement as she gets ready for the wedding!
