"So Abbie is going to kill Damon." My head turns to Stefan, who's carrying Hope and the bag of groceries I sent them for an hour ago. The store is five minutes away, but if I can tell anything by the soft snores from the sleeping Hope, it's that she gave him hell in the store.
"What makes you say that?" My brows pinch together, as I reach up to take Hope, as he drops the bag on the table. I came out here earlier to get away from Rafe. I didn't want to tell him all of that and the second I did, I regretted it. He pushed me too far and I just snapped.
We're grilling dinner tonight, but I used it as an excuse to get away. I have this grill but no idea how to use it. Hence why I'm swinging in the hammock with one of Abbie's smutty books. Stefan has quite a collection of them. I wonder if she's noticed them missing yet? I snort to myself. Of course she has. Anytime someone touches one, she must get a tingling in her bones.
He pulls his phone out, scrolling to something before handing it to me. I read the messages, as he starts supper. I might be a little spoiled to Stefan being here. He's cooked dinner every night and I'm not complaining. I might fight Abbie for him when they can go back.
I scroll through Abbie's messages, reading her practically begging Stefan to make him go home, and a list of things Damon has done to annoy her. One of them being cracking the spine on one of her books. Okay, that one I understand.
I keep scrolling even though I've reached the end, seeing her go on about asking about Hope. When Stefan mentions me, she shuts down. God, if Rafe thinks I'm bad, he'd have a field day with her. Hell, the entire family would have him needing his own therapy session to decompress from them.
The messages end with Damon, clearly stealing the phone from Abbie, saying everything's fine and he has things handled. I have no doubt he does, but I'm sure he'll be leaving with a few more bruises on his ego than he came in with.
"Yeah, they're definitely going to kill each other." I state, handing him back the phone. He quickly raises his eyebrows in agreement, not saying anything on the topic.
I so desperately want to ask Stefan about him and Abbie in Italy, but that makes me no better than Rafe earlier. We both have shit going on and now with Abbie in the middle of drama in California, I really should be focusing on that. I still don't know what. Stefan's been oddly quiet about that.
"So what's going on with Abbie? Why did she need you and Hope to come here?" If he really is hiding something from me, he's doing a damn good job. He doesn't even hesitate for a second.
"Just overwhelmed at the hospital and newborn. I figured we would just come here to give her a break." Liar!.. but I don't know which part. Damn. This would be so much easier if I was talking to her. Now I know how Rafe feels.
Pushing that thought away, I look down at Hope on my chest, snuggles in and drooling on my chest with her bum up in the air. She looks just like Rebekah after a night of clubbing.
"How is Abbie with Hope?" This time I almost missed his reaction. It wasn't a subtle one, but I wasn't looking because I didn't expect there to be one. Abbie is great at adapting to change, but I also know this can't be easy for her.
I was there the day Nik asked her to take Hope. I was there when he mentioned it. We need the world to think Hope died and Abbie wanted her freedom. I knew Klaus was up to no good when he agreed to give both Rebekah and Abbie their freedom, and it showed when he mentioned Hope going with her.
Abbie and Rebekah have always wanted kids, so normally they would've fought it out over who gets to raise her, but with Abbie's history, I understood why she hesitated.
