Abbie

"What in the hell have you gone and done now?!" It takes me a few minutes to realize it's not actually Avery in my dream screaming at me, it's the living and breathing version of her, currently hovering over my bed like the grim fucking reaper.

Groaning at the harsh sunlight coming into the room, I roll over, burying my face in the pillow to escape the pounding inside my head. What the hell happened last night and why does it feel like a thousand elephants stomping around inside my head?!

Shit. Those damn shots.

"Get the fuck up, Abbie Kate!" Avery hisses, jerking the covers off of me. I roll over, blinking again, before giving up and squeezing my eyes tight. Fuck it. I'll just have to walk around like this all day.

"What are you going on about now, Aves? Why are you barging in here so early in the morning?" She scoffs, jerking the pillow out from underneath my head and hitting me with it. Seriously, if I wasn't on the brink of death right now, I'd kill her.

"Jesus fuck, Abs. Who beat the shit out of you?!" My eyes snap open, even when it amplifies my hangover up another hundred notches. I think we're about to find out if a head can spontaneously combust.

Her face is creased with genuine concern, as her eyes flickering up and down my body, making me worry. What would make her ask that and genuinely mean it?

Sitting up, I clench my teeth and groan. What the fuck?! I haven't felt pain like this since Dahlia put me in the spell. This isn't the same though. My muscles burn and pull, like they're stiff and bruised.

Looking down, a gasp catches in my throat when I realize what caused her to worry. My thighs are decorative with deep purple/greenish bruises. Perfect imprinted fingerprints. Damon's fingerprints.

Bloody fucking hell!

"They're nothing." I huff, throwing my aching body over the side of the bed and going into the bathroom. I'm not even surprised to find my neck and shoulders with matching marks. Why would I ever get that lucky?

"Like hell they are. Either someone took you to pound town and left you with souvenirs, or you became a human punching bag."

Memories of Damon pinning me to the counter and making a mess out of me flash behind my eyes, making the ache between my legs and in my muscles intensify.

No. No! I'm not reliving it. Especially when I still have to make my escape before he wakes up.

Ignoring her, I snatch up the elastic hair tie, throwing my hair up in a messy bun and washing my face real quick. I need to get over this hangover soon or else I'll never get rid of it. Should've thought that through last night, instead of right now when I know the girls are already up, reeking havoc somewhere in the house.

"Why are you here, Aves?" I circle back to the question that she conveniently avoided earlier. Anything to get her from talking about my very, very poor choices from last night.

She leans onto the counter beside me, watching as I massage the soap into my face, before rolling her eyes and crossing her arms under her chest.

"I got a text this morning from Rafe."

"He's your boyfriend. Why is that ground to come in here and rip me a new one?" She stands up straighter with a growl, as I duck my head down to rinse my face. "It's what the text said. It said he couldn't wait to spend the holidays with me."

I stay under the stream far longer than necessary, just to hide the smile creeping up on my face. In no way am I giving her a reason to get revenge for what I did. Denial, lying by omission, it's all the same in our eyes. Ignorance is my only choice.
