Avery

I walk back into the compound, feeling heavier than when I left. I must've fed so much, I blacked out.. but I don't feel like I just went on a bender. I feel like I've been hit by a semi and back over again.

Actually, I remember feeding and realizing they're vampires, but I don't remember why I would kill them.

All I remember is coming to, covered in blood and having to steal a jacket from the person laying there.

Why can't I remember? I've never gone over the edge like that. I know I didn't flip my switch, because I can feel the flicker of humanity still warming me. What the hell happened that I can't remember feeding?!

"Aves," Marcel rushes over to me, grabbing my shoulders and shaking me until I look up at him. "What happened to you?! Who's blood is this?" His looks genuinely concerned. Looking around, everyone is looking at me with a mixture of expressions.

Taking a step back, I conjure up the best excuse I have. "You act like this is the first or the last time I'll come home covered in my lunch." I brush past him, but Rebekah steps in front of me. "You look like hell."

"Thanks, Bex." I roll my eyes, tugging the stranger's jacket tighter over myself. I'm just ready to go upstairs and crash for the night. It's not like they're going to allow me to help and until Abbie wakes up, it's best I stay hidden. Maybe even then I need to stay put.

I walk past Elijah, thinking I'm going to make a clean getaway when Klaus grabs my arm, tugging me into him. "Give me a name and I'll handle it." Looking up at him, I gently tug my arm from him, surprised he actually let go. "There's nothing to tell. I went out. I fed. I don't feel any better." His eyes narrow slightly.

"I'm just gonna go to bed. Wake me if anything changes." I don't even make it two steps when his hand lands on the small of my back. "You'll stay where I can see you."

He leads the way to Abbie's bedroom, ushering me in as the rest follow. A woman is tending to Abbie alongside Freya. Blankets, heating pads and an I.V. have been added to her lifeless body.

"What's going on?" I mutter, slowly walking over to her bedside, reaching for her hand, but stopping when Freya holds her hand up.

I look up at her and feel a flicker of anger spark inside of me. "Do you think I'll break her wrist or something?! I'm just trying to comfort my best friend." I snap and her eyes turn to slits. "I think you no longer know what you're capable of. If Dahlia has control over you, then I know what she's capable of and forces you to do."

"Just because you're too scared to stand up to this bitch, doesn't mean the rest of us are going to roll over and do what she wants." I keep my eyes on her, as I grab Abbie's hand. "You ever try to stop me from being here for her, not only will you be one dead witch, but I'll make sure to do something far worse than Dahlia ever could."

"Love," Klaus warns, stepping into my back, leaning in towards my ear. "She's just as scared as you. Try not to bite her head off.. yet." He lets his threat hand in the air and a wave of satisfaction rolls through me.

Ignoring both of us, Freya turns to Derek. "I don't think you should enter her mind.." her eyes drop to his hands. "That way." Derek shifts on his feet, his glare shifting from me to her. "Then how else do you suggest we do this?"

"Have you and Abbie discussed you becoming a vampire?" My spine stiffens. "Even if they had, you're not going to do it now, when Abbie isn't here to do it herself." I argue. "If that's your opinion of a last resort, then might I suggest Marcel or Davina."

"Marcel is still out and if Davina is an option, then we can just use Rebekah." Freya smiles. I snort, crossing my arms over my chest. "Yeah, let's send the incompetent newbie witch inside of Abbie's head. I'm sure that'll go swell."
