Avery
"Aves! You home?" I cringe when I hear JJ's voice echo throughout the house. I just put the girls down for their nap and I'm really not wanting to cut that short. Those little tiny terrors really are living up to their nickname. I see why Damon calls them little shits.
I race out of the room and down the steps, catching John B and Kie before they can make it up the steps.
"Nobody is allowed upstairs and keep your voices down." I usher them into the living room, where the rest of them wait, already opening up multiple snacks and queuing up their gaming system.
"Why can't we go upstairs and why do we have to stay quiet? Do you have a boy over?" Kie wiggles her eyebrows. I shove her shoulder, making her laugh.
Sarah's face scrunches up. "Ew. Please tell me it's not my brother." I roll my eyes, standing behind the chair Kie sits in. "No. It's not your brother. I have some house guests and they tend to get a little cranky when woken up."
"So I'm guessing kidnapping you for a beach day is out of the question?" John B asks, walking past me, before joining JJ and Pope on the floor in front of the tv. "Sorry. Maybe I can meet up with you guys later?"
I wouldn't mind taking the girls to the beach, but they're napping, on top of knowing all the questions I'll have to answer when they see Hope and Haidyn. It's easily explained, but I'm not sure if we're going with the truth here or if Abbie's playing them off as twins.
My phone rings upstairs, so I leave them to it, while I try and get to it before it wakes the girls. I swear, is the universe out to torture me?!
Picking it up and silencing it, I frown when I see Stefan's name across the screen. He normally doesn't call me, so I don't get the best feeling as I swipe to answer.
"Stefan? Is everything okay?"
"I was hoping you could tell me that. Why is Abbie avoiding my calls and texts?" I roll my eyes when I hear Damon's voice instead of Stefan's. "And why are you calling me on Stefan's phone?"
"Would you have answered if it was me calling?" I tilt my head from side to side, shrugging. "Fair point. As for why Abbie's ignoring you, have you thought maybe she doesn't want to talk to you?"
He scoffs. "She's also ignoring Stefan."
"Are you also pretending to be Stefan with her?"
"No. He's been texting her all week and she hasn't answered him once. She's been ignoring me for two. The only time we've heard from her, was when Bonnie called to have her help with a spell. That was yesterday."
"This may come as a shock to you, but Abbie tends to ghost people she doesn't want to talk to." I can practically hear his eyes roll. "I'm well aware of her habit of ignoring people. If you haven't noticed, I tend to stay at the top of that list."
"So why are you trying to call her?"
"Because I'm tired of waiting around for answers. I've given her time and space.. now I want to know why she did what she did?" I groan, falling back onto the bed with a huff.
Why is it always this we come back to? How has she managed to avoid addressing this and they always come running to me like I have all the answers. Sometimes Abbie manages to surprise me too. This would be one of those times.
"I don't know, Damon. Maybe try using some more patience and waiting for her to explain it. I don't know why she does what she does sometimes. So calling me isn't going to help either."
"But you can tell her to answer when I call."
"And end up pissing her off?" I scoff, sitting up. "Like hell. It's bad enough you're dragging Stefan into this. Leave me out of it."
