"Why are you here, Damon?" I groan, pushing myself up off the floor and going to grab a bottle of wine. First Klaus, then Rafe and now him. Is this what hell is like? I thought there would be more fire and eternal damnation. "Obviously I want answers. Your little bestie gave me my memories back and then ran away." He sat in one of the stools, as I spun around, setting the bottle down with wide eyes.
"Abbie gave you your memories back?" I tried to keep my voice calm, but I couldn't hide the surprise that she actually did it. She's known about it for months and never did anything about it. I honestly thought she decided to move on and never brought it up. "Wait.. does Stefan know?" I think about seeing them in Italy. Them holding hands and being on that bridge being a big clue. Did she move on from Damon?
"Yeah. He's known since the wedding." He huffs, crossing his arms as he leans back in the chair. I don't even bother hiding my shock. Abbie gave Stefan his memories back and not Damon. So she had moved on. It explains Italy and why he's in a bad mood.. but why would Stefan do that to Damon? "So Stefan doesn't know you and Abbie had a thing back then?" His glare becomes colder and an actua shiver runs down my spine. I'm missing something.
"He knew. He just didn't care." He leans up, his eyes never leaving mine. "Also, let's get one thing clear. We were never a thing. I was stupid back then to fall into her web of lies and I'm not going to let Stefan do the same." He declares as he continues. "She may have coerced some pity engagement out of me and I was too naive to see it, but Stefan won't fall for it. He'll see the lies and deceit before it's too late." My brows pinch together, clearly missing a fuckton of information.
"Engagement? Who was engaged?" His brows furrow and his face pinches in confusion. "Abbie and I. I proposed to her in 1864. She didn't tell you?" I slowly shake my head, trying to search my memories of Abbie or anyone for that matter mentioning an engagement. "No. I had no idea she met anyone, much less engaged." His jaw tightens and his eyes darken. "You didn't know anything, but you were still there that night." He growls.
I stand up, rolling my eyes at his accusations. He has no idea what went on that night or the nights leading up to it. Mikael was heading straight for Abbie because someone was going around killing people and animals. At first we thought Abbie was having another episode, so we were already heading her way but when Klaus got word of Mikael finding her, he became furious. Rightfully so.
Klaus swore he would kill Mikael if given the chance. I think any of us would've. When Klaus found out he was going after Abbie, after he told her to stay with us because it was too dangerous, he became murderous. Only thing we didn't know was because of who? Klaus hates being weak and Abbie being away made us weak. He wanted Mikael dead and Abbie locked away in her room. She didn't understand he was protecting her and he didn't understand that she was longing for a sliver of the freedom we were granted.
The thing with Klaus and Abbie was whatever we could do, Abbie couldn't do or even know about. She lived in this bubble, only seeing glimpses of the truth hidden within the four walls we called him. Abbie couldn't date, couldn't go out and feed, she could practice magic or turn outside of the house. She's been isolated her whole life, so I never once faulted her when Klaus gave her the option of freedom. Of course, it was a test and he always found some reason for her to fail. It was his own sick and twisted way of continuously ripping away that little bit of happiness she found.
"Mikael was after Abbie because of the murders back then. She had to come with us or else he would've killed her." I state simply, giving him what he needs to know and nothing more. "Katherine killed all those people. She would've been fine." He argues. I throw my head back and groan. He seriously has no idea the danger the town was in. Shaking my head as I look back up at him.
