Avery

"Don't you dare hide from me." I peek from under the covers, seeing Abbie's shadow move further into my room until her soft features are bathed in the moonlight. Her bright blue eyes sparkle, as she brushes the hair out of my face, a soft smile touching her lips.

It isn't until she looks out the window that I notice the tears on her cheeks and in her eyes. Sitting up, I look her over, trying to see if she looks weak or pale.

"What happened? Do you feel okay? Did something happen with Derek or Klaus?" She shakes her head, letting out a soft laugh. "No. I'm fine. It's just Hope and Haidyn. We're not allowed to know where they are, see them or even call them. I just.." She takes a deep breath and wipes her face.

"I just came to check on you. I've been so tucked away in Elijah's study, I realized I haven't been to check on you in a couple hours." I pull her into me, wrapping my arm tightly around her. "I'm fine. I've avoided Klaus and Hayley after breakfast. I can still feel the urge to rip them apart, but I'm hoping it'll go away soon."

She pulls away, her eyes moving between mine. I'm not sure what she sees, but I can see the defeat take over and I hate it. I hate when she sees the evil inside them.

"Unless it doesn't." She whispers, resting her forehead against mine. Her tears hit my arm and I hate when she cries. I know how to be here for her, but Kol and Rebekah have always been better at it. I hate that they're not here to help. A fact that she learned about over breakfast. She cried then too but then she threw herself back into her work.

That's why she hasn't been by in hours. Well, she thinks it's been hours, but it's been the entire day. She needed time to deal with Kol's death.. again, but also Rebekah being vulnerable because she refuses to go back into her original body.

Honestly, I'm surprised she's held up this long and hasn't begged to go back into the coma until we fix all of this.

"I need to go back and see if I can find something that'll help break the spell on you or kill Dahlia. Both will work.. but I need to start somewhere." She goes to leave, but I drag her back down to the bed, forcing her to lay down with me.

"Just stay with me till I fall asleep." I see the argument in her eyes, so I add. "Please." Her eyes soften, before she nods and scoots closer, pulling the covers up.

We face each other, and I can see the wheels in her head still spinning. She's not going to stop until she's dead or Dahlia is. I don't need to say how much I want it to be the latter, but if she keeps going at this rate, she'll spiral and burn out by the end of the week.

Pushing the hair from her face like she did me, I keep doing it until the wheels slow to a stop and her eyelids grow heavier.

I might've lied earlier. I knew I wasn't tired, but I knew she was. She'd be long asleep before it found me again, but I wanted the peace of mind, knowing she was finally resting and able to clear her mind for a bit.

Everyone thinks just because Abbie's a Tribrid and rarely ever breaks, she's this supernatural robot. What they fails to see is how much she keeps bottles up. They all do, but Abbie's release is different.

Kol, Klaus and myself take our anger out by taking lives. Rebekah sleeps around, trying to get back at her brothers. Finn loved to show his temper, by calling us all abominations and monsters. It's no surprise he's willingly sacrificed himself to bring them down.

Elijah and Abbie are one in the same. It's not lost on me that those two are the very glue of this family, or take on the most burden of keeping them together. They feel the pressure of everything greater than the others and in return, they feel the need to carry it without complaint.
