"Well, you both survived your first family dinner. I think y'all did better than me." Hayley smiles at Freya and me. I let out a slow breath, shaking my head. "That was something." Freya nods. "I actually expected more violence than yelling." Freya laughs, but it's humorless.. almost painful.
"Oh yeah. That was always an option, but I like to think Abbie kept herself pretty calm for the kids present." Hayley shrugs, leaning back into her chair. "The first dinner we had together when I got here, Abbie wasn't even here. Her and Klaus argued, before she left and didn't come back for 3 days. We thought she flipped her humanity." She shrugs again.
"Have they always been like this?" Freya asks. "I'm not sure. I know what I saw while I was here, which was arguing and leaving. I've heard stories about them all getting along, but I'm not sure how that was ever possible." She rolls her eyes and we all nod along in agreement.
"Do you mind if I hold her?" I look over to Freya and then Haidyn, who's asleep on my chest, and then nod. I went upstairs to get her from Abbie after she ate. I figured Abbie could use some time alone after all that.
"She's so little. I barely remember Finn when he was this little." Freya says, never taking her eyes off her. "Finn?" I ask.
Hayley snorts. "Another dysfunctional Mikaelson. He's the eldest son." I nod, trying to remember they're names, order and whatever else I can about this family. I feel like it's never ending with them.
"Did Abbie not tell you about him?" Freya looks over at me and I shake my head. "Not that I remember. We've been through a lot in the last couple of months, so on the way down, she gave a brief family history." They both nod.
"Well I'm the oldest, then it's Finn, Elijah, Nik, Kol, Rebekah, Abbie and Henerik, but I've been told he died before they became vampires."
"Eight kids? Your parents must be saints." They both laugh and I know it must be the opposite. This family is never what it seems. "Esther and Mikael are anything but. Mikael has been trying to kill them for 1000 years and Esther was the reason I had to fake my own daughter's death." Hayley's eyes take on this pained look, but I've heard the story about Hope and why Abbie had her. I didn't know it was Abbie's mom though.
"So Talia is your mothers name?" I look over to Freya and nod carefully. When Abbie said her mother wasn't much of a role model in her life, I didn't think I would be saying that to her family. "Yeah. It took us forever to pick it. We just couldn't agree on one."
Hayley laughs, leaning up. "At least you had a name. Klaus and I didn't even talk about baby names until she was already born and it took forever. His only hard no was Katherine." She rolls her eyes and I smile.
"Mine was Kate." They both give me a confused look so I shrug and explain. "I have this ex named Kate, who was the reason I started to slowly die. Her family was a group of hunters, who targeted werewolves and killed my entire family." Both their eyes widen. "But Abbie and I got married, which saved me and brought back my Alpha power." I shrug.
"So that's why I couldn't agree with Kate."
"That's awful, but I get it." Hayley sighs, as Freya nods. "It's probably for the best anyways. "Klaus calls Abbie 'Abbie Kate' and Kol just calls her 'Kate'. It would've been really confusing in a couple years and everyone is calling Kate." We all laugh.
We lapse into a comfortable silence, Hayley and Freya getting to know their niece, while I take everything in. The house has to be at least 100 years old, but it doesn't look too bad. A lot of concrete, but I'm sure it would work better when things do get violent. Which I'm sure happens a good bit.
